A pulse that is fine and slow indicates a condition that is easy to cure.
Proctoptosis (rectal prolapse) refers to the downward prolapse of the anus due to deficiency-cold. This disease may arise from intestinal wind, hemorrhoids, or fistulas, where the patient has taken cold-natured medicines; or it may result from straining during defecation; or it may be caused by chronic dysentery with tenesmus and urgency, leading to prolapse due to extreme discomfort; it can also occur in postpartum women due to excessive exertion, or in children due to crying and straining, chronic dysentery, and invasion of wind pathogen into deficient areas.
Proctoptosis refers to the eversion of the anal canal. The Lung and Large Intestine are exterior-interiorly related, and the anus is the gate of the Large Intestine. If the Lung has excess-heat, it leads to constipation and accumulation; if the Lung is deficient-cold, it leads to prolapse.
The Kidney governs bowel movements; therefore, individuals with Lung and Kidney deficiency often suffer from this symptom. If the syndrome is damp-heat in the Large Intestine, use Shengyang Chushi Tang (Yang-Raising Damp-Draining Decoction). If the syndrome is blood-heat, use Siwu Tang plus Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Huaihua (Sophorae Flos). If the syndrome is blood-deficiency, use Siwu Tang plus Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Fuling (Poria). If accompanied by hemorrhoids, add Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huaihua, and Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma). If the constitution is weak, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Middle-Supplementing Qi-Augmenting Decoction) plus Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba). If there is Kidney deficiency, treat with Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia).
Shengyang Chushi Tang: For conditions manifesting upward from below, employ the method of guiding and dissipating them.
Ingredients: Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 8 fen), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 8 fen), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 1.5 qian), Maiya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus, 3 qian), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 3 qian), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1.5 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 2 qian), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, 2 qian), Zhuling (Polyporus, 2 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 8 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs, decoct in water, and take warm on an empty stomach. If accompanied by stomach cold and borborygmus, add Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus, 1.5 qian) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 2 qian).
Another discussion on proctoptosis states that it is caused by Spleen and Lung deficiency-cold, resulting in downward prolapse and eversion of the anus.
Tiqi San (Qi-Lifting Powder) Ingredients: Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 2 qian, honey-fried), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 2 qian, de-rhizome and stir-fried), Dangguishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 qian), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 2 qian, stir-fried), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 8 fen, stir-fried), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 8 fen), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 4 fen), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 8 fen, honey-fried), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, 1.5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs, decoct in water, and take orally.
External Washing Method:
Use Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis, 3 qian) and Baijian (Alumen, one piece). Decoct in water and wash the area while warm. Support the prolapsed anus with a banana leaf or lotus leaf.
Another prescription for treating proctoptosis:
Take seven spiders, burn them until they retain their medicinal properties (charcoal state), and grind into powder. Apply a small amount mixed with sesame oil to the affected area each time.
Another prescription:
Grind fresh spiders into a paste and apply to the umbilicus; the anus will retract immediately.
Another prescription:
Take one dead soft-shelled turtle head, burn it until no smoke remains, grind into powder, and apply to the area. Press and support manually to reduce the prolapse.
Another prescription:
Mix "Wulongwei" (dust from ceiling beams) with mouse feces. Burn the mixture in a bucket to produce smoke, and have the patient sit over the bucket to fumigate the area several times until the anus retracts and does not prolapse again, which indicates efficacy.
Another discussion on proctoptosis states that the anus everts and prolapses due to deficiency-cold. Use Yiqi Tang (Qi-Replenishing Decoction) removing Chaihu, adding Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Baishao, Fuling, Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and stir-fried Ganjiang, decocted with dates for oral administration.
Another prescription for proctoptosis due to qi-heat:
Xiongdan (Ursi Fel, 5 fen), Pian Nao (Borneolum Syntheticum, 1 fen), Ercha (Catechu, 2 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder, mix with human milk, and apply to the anus. As the heat disperses from top to bottom, the anus will contract and retract.
