According to *Jin Gui Yao Lue* (Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet): Heat in the Upper Jiao leads to cough, developing into Lung Withering. Lung Withering arises from the loss of body fluids and belongs to Yin deficiency syndromes. If cough persists for a long time, it causes the lung lobes to wither and shrink.
Hoarseness, raspy voice, and frequent hemoptysis are difficult to treat. Lung Abscess results from contracting wind-cold pathogens that remain in the lungs, stagnating and transforming into heat; or it involves damp-heat and phlegm-fluid steaming the lung orifices, causing blood stasis and transforming into an abscess with pus. The treatment method strictly forbids warm tonification. Whenever wind-cold is initially contracted leading to cough, immediately accompanied by rebellious Qi and panting, indicating the impending formation of Lung Withering or Lung Abscess, moxibustion may be applied. However, if the heat of Lung Withering has penetrated deeply, or if pus has already formed in Lung Abscess, and the expectorated material resembles rice porridge, moxibustion is contraindicated. Moxibustion would aid the pathogen and damage the lung, causing further harm.
Headache: Wind-cold lodging in the meridians causes chills, headache, heavy body, and aversion to cold.
