Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix with honey, and divide one tael of powder into four pills. Dissolve in hot water and take orally. If thirsty, add *Gualou Gen* (Trichosanthes Root); if suffering from diarrhea, add *Muli Fen* (Oyster Shell Powder), each in equal parts. Grind into powder and take orally.
Alternatively, use **Jiegeng Zhike Tang** (Platycodon and Aurantium Decoction): Treats Qi stagnation and palpitation caused by Cold Damage, characterized by chest fullness and a sensation of impending death.
Herbs: *Zhike* (Aurantium Fruit, pulp removed, stir-fried with bran), *Jiegeng* (Platycodon Root, radix removed), *Gancao* (Licorice Root, each in equal parts).
Cut the herbs into fragments to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, with 1.5 sheng of water, decoct to 0.7 sheng, and take before meals. For excessive phlegm, add *Banxia* (Pinellia Tuber) and *Shengjiang* (Fresh Ginger); for heat, add *Huangqin* (Scutellaria Root).
**Sanhuang Tang** (Three Yellows Decoction): Treats Yin syndrome of Cold Damage resulting from premature purgation, leading to epigastric stuffiness that is soft upon pressure, with a floating pulse at the Guan position. If the exterior syndrome is not resolved, do not purge. First, treat according to Wind-Cold syndromes using **Guizhi Tang** (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) or **Mahuang Tang** (Ephedra Decoction). After the exterior is resolved, take this formula.
Herbs: *Dahuang* (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, steamed), *Huanglian* (Coptis Rhizome), *Huangqin* (Scutellaria Root, heart removed).
Cut the herbs into fragments to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, steep in 2 sheng of boiling water for one shichen (approx. 2 hours), filter out the dregs, and divide into two doses to take warm. If sweating and aversion to cold occur, add *Fuzi* (Prepared Aconite Root).
**Banxia Xiexin Tang** (Pinellia Decoction for Releasing the Epigastrium): Treats epigastric fullness and stuffiness without pain.
Herbs: *Banxia* (Pinellia Tuber, 1 liang 1 qian, washed seven times in hot water), *Huangqin* (Scutellaria Root, heart removed), *Renshen* (Ginseng Root, radix removed), *Gancao* (Licorice Root, honey-fried), *Ganjiang* (Dried Ginger, processed, each half liang).
Cut the herbs into fragments to make a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, with 1.5 sheng of water, 5 slices of ginger, and one jujube, decoct to 0.7 sheng, and take warm. If Cold Damage or Wind Strike was mistakenly treated with purgation by the physician... [text implies subsequent symptoms], add *Gancao* (Licorice Root) 1 liang.
Another prescription treats phlegm-heat causing mental restlessness and epigastric stuffiness; combine *Banxia Wan* (Pinellia Pill) and *Jiu Zheng Huanglian Wan* (Wine-Steamed Coptis Pill), take 35 pills per dose with rice drink, highly effective. (See *Jin Xiao Fang*).
For Yang syndrome Jie Xiong (Chest Binding) where death seems imminent and no medicine works: Take 11 live earthworms (*Qushan*), mash them, mix with half a zhan of honey and half a zhan of water, and administer orally. If honey is unavailable, use brown sugar.
**Dingxiang Shidi San** (Clove and Persimmon Calyx Powder): Treats hiccups. (All formulas are seen in Volume 4 later.)
**Baihe Zhimu Tang** (Lily and Anemarrhena Decoction): Treats patients who want to eat but cannot, often remain silent, want to lie down but cannot, want to walk but cannot, feel cold as if not cold, feel heat, diet varies between tasty and tasteless, appear healthy but cannot move when lying down, bitter taste in mouth, red urine, and vomiting/diarrhea immediately after taking medicine. This arises from imbalance after a major illness, named Baihe Disease (Lily Disease), which this formula treats. It is taken after sweating therapy.
Herbs: *Baihe* (Lily Bulb, 7 pieces, broken apart), *Zhimu* (Anemarrhena Rhizome, 3 liang, sliced).
First wash the lily bulbs, soak overnight. When white foam appears, discard the water. Add 2 sheng of spring water, decoct to 1 sheng, filter out dregs. Separately use 2 sheng of spring water... [text cuts off].
**Huashi Daizhe Tang** (Talcum and Hematite Decoction): Treats Baihe Disease after purgation.
Herbs: *Baihe* (Lily Bulb, 7 pieces, broken apart), *Huashi* (Talcum Group, 3 liang, crushed, wrapped in silk), *Daizhe* (Hematite, size of a bullet, crushed, wrapped in silk).
First wash the lily bulbs, soak overnight. When white foam appears, discard the water. Add 2 sheng of spring water, decoct to 1 sheng, filter out dregs. Separately use 2 sheng of spring water... [text cuts off].
**Jizi Tang** (Egg Yolk Decoction): Treats Baihe Disease after emesis.
Herbs: *Baihe* (Lily Bulb, 7 pieces, broken apart), *Jizi Huang* (Egg Yolk, 10 pieces).
First wash the lily bulbs, soak overnight. When white foam appears, discard the water. Add 2 sheng of spring water, decoct to 1 sheng, filter out dregs, add egg yolks, and stir well.
**Baihe Xi Fang** (Lily Washing Prescription): Treats Baihe Disease unresolved for one month, transforming into thirst.
Soak 1 dou of lily in water overnight, use the water to wash the body. After washing, eat boiled noodles/biscuits, do not use salted black beans.
**Xuanshen Shengma Tang** (Scrophularia and Cimicifuga Decoction): Treats Cold Damage where purgation was missed, or wrongly applied, causing heat-toxin in the stomach, manifesting as rash like brocade patterns, severe restlessness, and delirious speech. Also treats throat obstruction... [text cuts off].
Herbs: *Xuanshen* (Scrophularia Root), *Shengma* (Cimicifuga Rhizome), *Gancao* (Licorice Root, each half liang).
Cut the herbs into fragments to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, with 1.5 sheng of water, decoct to 0.7 sheng, filter out dregs, and take warm. Warm toxin can also cause rashes.
**Zhimu Mahuang Tang** (Anemarrhena and Ephedra Decoction): Treats Ruined Cold Damage. After recovery from Cold Damage, prolonged duration leads to unsettled spirit, erroneous speech, tidal fever with red cheeks, alternating chills and fever like malaria, persistent diarrhea. This is caused by toxin in the Pericardium Collateral.
Herbs: *Zhimu* (Anemarrhena Rhizome, 1.5 liang), *Mahuang* (Ephedra Herb, nodes removed), *Gancao* (Licorice Root, honey-fried), *Shaoyao* (Peony Root), *Huangqin* (Scutellaria Root, heart removed), *Guixin* (Cinnamon Bark, each half liang).
Cut the herbs into fragments to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, with 1.5 sheng of water, decoct to 0.7 sheng, take warm, 3-4 times daily. If restless and desiring water, give small amounts.
**Heinu Wan** (Black Slave Pill): Treats disordered regulation in Cold Damage, untreatable by physicians. Also treats epidemic diseases where there is no sweat for 7 days, surging and rapid pulse, red face, staring eyes, body heat, restlessness, delirious speech, desire to run, extreme thirst, or locked jaw. Even if the spirit is scattered, as long as the epigastrium is warm, forcing medicine down will revive. Also treats Yang Du (Yang Toxin) with rashes.
Herbs: *Mahuang* (Ephedra Herb, nodes removed), *Dahuang* (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, each 2 liang), *Mangxiao* (Mirabilite), *Fudimei* (Soot from the furnace bottom, separately ground), *Liangchen* (Dust from grain storage, separately ground), *Xiaomai Nu* (Wheat Sprouts/Parasites), *Zaotu Mo* (Soot from the chimney, each 1 liang).
Grind into powder, bind with refined honey into pills the size of bullets. Dissolve one pill in fresh well water and take. For those thirsty, allow them to drink cold water until finished. Soon they will feel cold, and after the cold sensation passes, sweating will occur and the disease will resolve. If no sweat occurs after a significant time (sun moves five chi), repeat the method with another pill. Only administer if the patient is extremely thirsty; do not give if not thirsty.
**Wuyou San** (Carefree Powder): Treats disordered regulation in Cold Damage, internal binding of toxic qi, chest and abdominal distension, inability to sit or lie comfortably, prolonged non-resolution, delirious speech, constipation or urinary retention, or recurrent vomiting.
December yellow ox gallbladder (Fill with *Tiannanxing* (Arisaema Rhizome) powder, tie tightly, hang in a windy, shaded place until dry).
Grind the dried gallbladder into powder. Mix 0.5 liang of *Renshen* (Ginseng Root) decocted to 0.7 sheng with 2 qian of the powder, take warm. Shortly after, follow with more hot ginseng soup, or induce sleep.
**Taoren Tang** (Peach Kernel Decoction): Treats Hu Huo Disease (Fox-Huo Disease), characterized by silence, desire to sleep but eyes won't close, aversion to food, complexion alternating red/white/black, colorless teeth, white tongue, choking voice. This arises from empty intestines/stomach after major illness, allowing three worms to seek food and eat the five viscera. Eating the throat causes Huo (confusion/choking); eating the lower part causes Hu (fox-like symptoms/dry throat). Check for sores on the upper lip (worms eating viscera) or lower lip (worms eating anus).
Herbs: *Taoren* (Peach Seed, skin and tip removed), *Huazi* (Sophora Seed, crushed), *Ai* (Mugwort Leaf, each 1 liang).
Cut the herbs into fragments to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, with 1 large sheng of water, 3 slices of ginger, and 2 jujubes. Decoct to 0.7 sheng, take before meals.

**Huanglian Ejiao Wan** (Coptis and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Pill): Treats the same as above. (See Diarrhea category.)
**Huanglian Jiedu Tang** (Coptis Detoxification Decoction): Treats epidemic diseases where sweating occurred after 3 days, but worsened due to alcohol consumption, causing severe restlessness, dry retching, dry mouth, groaning, erroneous speech, and inability to lie down.
Herbs: *Huanglian* (Coptis Rhizome, 3 fen), *Huangbai* (Phellodendron Bark, half liang), *Zhizi* (Gardenia Fruit, 4 pieces, broken apart), *Huangqin* (Scutellaria Root, 1 liang).
Cut the herbs into fragments to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, with 1.5 sheng of water, decoct to one tea-cup amount, filter out dregs and take. If not better, take again, consume congee, and gradually recover.
**Huanglian Xijiao Tang** (Coptis and Rhinoceros Horn Decoction): Treats Cold Damage and other post-disease conditions where sores appear in the lower part.
Herbs: *Huanglian* (Coptis Rhizome, half liang), *Wumei* (Dark Plum, 7 pieces), *Xijiao* (Rhinoceros Horn, substitute with *Shengma* if unavailable), *Muxiang* (Aucklandia Root, each 1 liang).
Cut the herbs into fragments to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, with 1.5 sheng of water. Decoct to 0.7 sheng, take before meals.

Grind into powder, mix with juice from fresh mugwort, form into pills the size of a jujube seed, wrap in silk, and insert into the lower part. Plantain juice is better. If no mugwort, simply wrap the powder in silk and insert.
**Sini Tang** (Recover the Counterflow Decoction): Treats Cold Jue (Cold Extremities) from Cold Damage. Or exterior heat with interior cold, diarrhea with undigested food, vomiting after eating. Or after massive sweating, vomiting, or purgation, leading to limb cramping, whole-body pain, no thirst, and deep pulse. (See previous.)
**Baihu Tang** (White Tiger Decoction): Treats Heat Jue with abdominal fullness, heavy body difficult to turn, greasy face, delirious speech, urinary incontinence, cold extremities, spontaneous sweating, and deep-slippery pulse, indicating interior heat. (See previous.)
**Da Chengqi Tang** (Major Order the Qi Decoction): Also treats Heat Jue. Observe the depth of the disease and measure the dosage. (See previous.)
**Huanglian Ejiao Tang** (Coptis and Donkey-Hide Gelatin Decoction): Treats Shaoyin Disease lasting 2-3 days or more, with mental restlessness and inability to sleep.
Herbs: *Huanglian* (Coptis Rhizome, 1 liang), *Ejiao* (Donkey-Hide Gelatin, 3 fen), *Jizi Huang* (Egg Yolk, half), *Huangqin* (Scutellaria Root, 1 fen), *Shaoyao* (Peony Root, half).

**Wenge San** (Clam Shell Powder): For exterior syndrome (Yang) that should be resolved by sweating, but was wrongly cooled with cold water, trapping heat inside, causing increased restlessness, pruritic skin, desire to drink but no actual thirst. Suitable for this formula. (If ineffective, give *Wuling San*. For Cold Excess Jie Xiong without heat signs, give *Sanwu Baisan*.)
Herbs: *Wenge* (Clam Shell, 1 liang).
Grind into powder. Mix with boiling water and take one cun-bi (measure). Use 5 he of water.
**Sanwu Baisan** (Three Things White Powder): Treats Cold Excess Jie Xiong without heat signs. (Belongs to Taiyang.)
Herbs: *Beimu* (Fritillaria Bulb, 3 fen), *Jiegeng* (Platycodon Root, 3 fen, radix removed), *Badou* (Croton Seed, heart and skin removed, roasted black, ground to paste, 1 fen).
Grind into powder, mix with Badou, bind with white drink (rice water) and take. Strong adults take half a qian-bi, weak persons reduce dose. Disease above the diaphragm causes vomiting; below causes diarrhea.
**Shizao Tang** (Ten Jujube Decoction): Taiyang Wind Strike with diarrhea and vomiting. Can only attack after exterior is resolved. Patient has slight sweating, occurring at times, headache, epigastric hardness/fullness, pain radiating to hypochondrium, dry retching, shortness of breath, sweating without aversion to cold. This indicates exterior resolved but interior unharmonized. Suitable for this. (See Phlegm-Fluids category.)
**Didang Tang** (Assault the Accumulation Decoction): Taiyang Disease for 6-7 days, exterior signs persist, pulse is faint and deep, no Jie Xiong, but patient is manic. Heat is in the Lower Jiao. Hardness/fullness in lower abdomen, free urination indicates blood accumulation must be purged to heal. This is because Taiyang pathogen followed the meridian, causing stasis-heat in the interior. Or Taiyang disease with jaundice, deep-knotted pulse, hard lower abdomen, free urination indicates no blood stasis. Free urination with mania confirms blood syndrome. Or Cold Damage with heat, full lower abdomen, should have obstructed urination, but now free urination indicates blood stasis. Must purge, do not leave any residue. All suitable. (Belongs to Taiyang.) Yangming Syndrome with forgetfulness indicates blood accumulation. Due to old blood stasis, forgetfulness occurs. Stool may be hard, but bowel movement is easy, color black. These indicate purgation is possible. If already purged and pulse remains rapid... [text cuts off]. (Belongs to Yangming.)
Herbs: *Dahuang* (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, 1 liang, peeled, wine-washed), *Mengchong* (Dragonfly Larvae, 10 pieces, wings and feet removed, roasted), *Taoren* (Peach Seed, 7 pieces, skin and tip removed, crushed), *Shizhi* (Leech, ... [text cuts off, typically 30 roasted]).
