A rapid pulse indicates vomiting; a intermittent pulse indicates Huoluan (Cholera); a slightly slippery pulse indicates survival (favorable prognosis); a choppy and rapid pulse indicates a dire prognosis (ominous). Cases include phlegm obstructing the middle jiao preventing food intake, qi rebellion, cold pathogen lodging in the stomach opening, infiltration by summer-heat, dietary injury, stagnation of blood stasis, and most commonly, combination of fire and phlegm.
