Xuan Yong (Hanging Abscess)
This disease is caused by excessive worry and thought, which injure the Seven Emotions, leading to the exhaustion of Kidney Water (Yin fluids of the Kidney). It is suitable to use Kushen Tang (Sophora Decoction) with Hengwen Gancao (Licorice Root processed with specific method).
Ku Shen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix) (1 qian), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen), Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Long Dan Cao (Gentianae Radix), Xu Shu (Polygoni Avicularis Herba), Zhu Ling (Polyporus), Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatheri Herba), Ba Ji Tian (Morindae Officinalis Radix), He Shou Wu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex), Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthis Radix), Huai Hua (Sophorae Flos), Hengwen Gan Cao (Licorice Root processed with specific method) (5 qian), Bai Shao (White Peony Root) (6 fen).
Method for processing Hengwen Gan Cao: Take one bowl of long-flowing water from mountain streams; do not use river or well water. Slowly moisten with water over low heat, roasting from morning until afternoon, until all water is evaporated. Do not rush. Split the Licorice Root; when the center feels moist, it is thoroughly processed. Finely chop, then add two bowls of good non-fermented wine. Add the above herbs and Licorice Root, decoct until one bowl remains, and take warm. Two or three doses ensure safety. When this disease first appears, it is as large as a pine nut, gradually growing as large as a lotus seed. After ten days, it becomes red and swollen like a plum or peach, or even a bowl. If it ruptures, it is difficult to treat. Taking Gan Cao will not eliminate it quickly, but after twenty days, it will certainly disappear completely.
Add two zhong of water, decoct, and take on an empty stomach.
Specifically treats Damp-Toxin. If yellow fluid flows out like pus-filled bumps, apply the powder to the affected area. If damp, sprinkle dry powder; if dry, mix with candle oil and apply.
Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) (1 qian), Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (8 fen), Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis) (3 qian, roasted), Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex) (5 qian, processed with heat).
First stir-fry the first four ingredients until reddish, then add Huang Bo, stir-fry until charred, and grind into fine powder. Treat according to the above method.
Another prescription treats wind-stinging red sores on the face.
Good Liu Huang (Sulfur) (1 liang), Ku Fan (Alumen Exsiccatum) (5 qian), Gan Bai Yan (Dry White Salt) (2 qian), Pian Nao (Borneolum Syntheticum) (1 fen, ground separately).
First grind the first three ingredients into extremely fine powder, mix evenly, then immediately add Pian Nao, grinding and mixing until extremely uniform. Store in a porcelain jar in a cool place.
Before going to bed, take two or three fen, mix with saliva to form a paste, and apply inside both nostrils. Apply the remainder to the affected area. Avoid fried foods, roasted items, pepper wine, and all spicy substances. Effect will be seen in half a month. Afterwards, take one liang of Sulfur, grind into powder, divide into six or seven doses. Soak each dose in one zhong of boiling water, let cool, and occasionally wash the affected area to reduce redness.
