For treating infants and children with eyes showing a pale red color inside, indicating Heart deficiency heat.
Use Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao), Groundcherry Root Bark (Digupi), Red Peony Root (Chishaoyao), Bupleurum Root (Chaihu), Kudzu Root (Gange), and Licorice Root (Gancao). Decoct in water and take after meals.

Luoshi Zhugan Wan (Luo's Boiled Liver Pill)

Cassia Seed (Caomoming, Stir-fried, 3 qian), Tribulus Fruit (Bajili, Stir-fried, de-spined, 4 qian), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng, 2 qian). Grind into fine powder. Take one piece of pig liver, slice thinly with a bamboo knife, insert the powdered medicine inside, steam over rice until cooked, remove the medicine, and consume the liver.

For treating Gan eye disease characterized by pus discharge and corneal opacity, caused by damp-heat pathogenic factors.
Use Notopterygium Root (Qianghuo), Gentian Root (Longdancao, each 3 qian), Blue Clam Powder (Qinghafen, 5 qian), Scutellaria Root (Huangqin, stir-fried, 2 qian), Snake Slough (Shetui, 0.5 fen), Ephedra Herb (Mahuang, 2.5 fen), and Flowering Grape Pith (Gujingcao, 0.5 fen). Grind into powder, take 2 qian per dose, delivered with clear tea.

Another prescription
For treating sudden onset of swelling, redness, and pain in the eyes.
Use Notopterygium Root (Qianghuo), Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Shengma), Scutellaria Root (Huangqin), Platycodon Root (Jiegeng), Licorice Root (Gancao), Mint Herb (Bohe), Angelica Sinensis Tail (Guiwei), Red Peony Root (Chishao), Forsythia Fruit (Lianqiao), and Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong). If the condition is due to blood heat stagnation causing pain, add Gentian Root (Longdancao) and Gypsum (Shigao); if there is redness and obstruction in the sclera (white part of the eye), add White Mulberry Root Bark (Sangbaipi) and Chrysanthemum Flower (Juhua). Decoct in water and take orally.

Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, 0.7 fen), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui, 1 qian), Oriental Apricot Kernel (Yuliren, crushed, 1 qian), Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie, 0.8 fen), Almond Seed (Xingren, peeled and de-pitted, 7 seeds), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng, 1 qian), Alum (Danfan), and White Alum (Mingfan, each 0.3 fen). Decoct in water. When warm, wash the eyes gently and avoid wind exposure.

Another prescription
Effective for treating eye pain and astigmatism-like corneal opacities (xingzhang).
Mirabilite (Piaoxiao, 1 qian), Green Vitriol (Lvfan, 0.1 fen). Take seven red dates, remove the pits, insert the medicine into the dates. Use one large bowl of water for cooking the dates, and another large bowl of water in the outer pot. Steam using the double-boiler method until the water in the outer pot is completely dry. Leave overnight before use.

Another prescription
For treating dilated pupils (tongzi sanda).
Cornus Fruit (Shanzhuyu), Goji Berry (Gouqizi), Yam Rhizome (Shanyao, steamed, each 3 liang), Moutan Cortex (Danpi, 1 liang), Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shudi, 4 liang), Alisma Rhizome (Zexie, 5 qian), Schisandra Fruit (Wuweizi, 7 qian), Angelica Sinensis Body (Dangguishen, 2 liang). Grind into powder, make pills with honey, and take with Longan fruit soup.

Another prescription
For treating trichiasis and entropion (daojie quanmao). Pricking with a three-edged needle to induce bleeding results in immediate cure. Another method: take one Momordica Charantia Seed (Mubiezi), remove the shell, grind into powder, wrap in cotton, and insert into the nostril. For left eye affliction, insert into the right nostril; for right eye affliction, insert into the left nostril.
