Select pig tails because they move constantly, symbolizing dispersion outward.
Take the tip of a small pig tail, prick to draw two or three drops of blood, add a small amount of Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum), one qian of Zhusha powder (Cinnabaris), grind together into a paste, and dissolve/administer using Muxiang soup (Vladimiria Root Decoction).

Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama) (stir-fried with wine until bead-like, 3 qian; those that are purple and from the front feet are preferred), Shexiang (Moschus) (1 fen). Grind into fine powder. Children take 3-4 fen per dose, adults take 7-8 fen per dose. Mix with Muxiang decoction and a little wine, then administer. If heat is severe, administer with Zicao decoction (Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix Decoction).
Initial eruption formula for supporting the rash.
Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama) (stir-fried with soil until thoroughly cooked, 1 liang; those from the head and front feet are preferred), Hongqu (Monascus Ruber) (1 qian, lightly roasted). Grind extremely fine. Mix with rooster comb blood and jiu niang (fermented rice wine) and administer. Adults take slightly more than 1 qian; children take 4-8 fen depending on age. This yields miraculous effects and is superior to the previous formulas. This is because Shexiang (Moschus) should not be used lightly in smallpox/rash conditions.
