Every five days is called a "Hou" (a period of five days in the traditional Chinese calendar). Three Hou constitute one "Qi" (solar term/climatic phase). Two Qi make up one month. Sixty days constitute one Qi (Note: The original text contains a logical inconsistency here; typically sixty days cover two solar terms or approximately two months, but translated literally as per source). Three months form one season. Four seasons make up one year. The celestial sphere rotates 365 and 1/4 degrees, which serves as the cycle number for a year.
When changes occur every five days (Hou), it is due to the transformation of Earth Qi (Tu Qi). If five days pass without climatic change, this Hou will bring disaster. The fourth lunar month represents Yang Earth, nurturing and generating all things; the tenth lunar month represents Yin Earth, storing and preserving all things. Earth is the beginning and end of the generation and completion of all things.
The brain is the Sea of Marrow (Sui Hai). All marrow belongs to the brain. Thus, extending from the brain down to the coccyx, the marrow is governed by the Kidney.
Danzhong (CV 17) is named the Sea of Qi. Located between the nipples, it is the gathering place of Qi and can distribute Yin and Yang Qi. Qi is the source of life and the master of the Life Gate (Ming Men); therefore, for humans, it must not be damaged.
The diaphragm membrane lies below the Heart and Lungs, connecting circumferentially with the spine, intestines, and abdomen. Like an impermeable curtain, it shields turbid Qi, preventing it from steaming upward to affect the Heart and Lungs.
Jin Ye (body fluids) at Lanmen and Shenque seep into the Bladder, while waste materials flow into the Large Intestine.
In the human body, meridians, Zang-Fu organs, bones, joints, and nine orifices are all interconnected. the Foot-Taiyang Meridian runs along the back of the body; the Foot-Yangming Meridian runs along the front; the Foot-Shaoyang Meridian runs along the sides. External pathogenic invasions and internal transmission of disease patterns exist. A small diagram is drawn here for careful study.
