紫草木通汤 紫草、本通、人参、茯苓、糯米各四分，甘草二分，水煎温服，治痘出不快。如大便利者去
紫草，加木香。
活血散 赤芍、归尾、红花、紫草各五钱，木香二钱，血竭一钱，为末。每二钱，痘色淡白，酒调下；热
极血焦不红活，紫草煎酒下。
小活血散 单白芍炒为末。每一钱，出快温酒下；痘痛温水下；倒靥，紫草煎汤，入酒少许调服，大能活
血止痛、除烦。如两脚蜷挛，加甘草，即芍药甘草汤也。
匀气散 即八味顺气散各五分，甘草二分半，木香一分半，为末，酒调服。治气滞痘出不快及肉腠浓密
身痛。
疏气饮 苍术、白芷、防风、升麻、黄芩、白芍、连翘、归尾各等分，甘草节减半，水煎服，治气实痰
郁发不出者。
连翘散 连翘、防风、山栀、甘草各等分，水煎服，治痘发热不厥。
万金散 防风二钱，人参、蝉蜕各一钱，薄荷三叶，水煎服；或为末，每二钱，用开花萝卜煎汤调服，
取其欲发之义耳。治痘已出未能匀透，色不红润，实者加升麻。
鼠粘汤，治稠密以防陷伏；
鼠粘子、当归、甘草、地骨皮、黄芩、柴胡、黄 、连翘各等分，水煎温服，热退即止。治痘出稠密，
身热不退；宜急服此药，以防青干黑靥。
调解散，医冰硬而为邪侵。
青皮、陈皮、桔梗、枳壳、当归、半夏、川芎、木通、干葛、甘草、紫苏、紫草各二分，人参一分，
姜、枣煎服，未效加山楂根。治痘已发，或为风冷所折，荣卫不知；或又为宿食所伤，内气壅遏，以致冰硬。
黑陷宣毒宣风兮，大戟山栀猪尾无价；
宣毒膏 朱砂、乳香各一两，马牙硝、甘草各五钱，脑麝各一钱，为末，腊月八日，取小活 猪尾血一
盏和匀，以新竹筒一个盛之，用绵纸数重封口，系于大粪坑屋梁上，至清明日取出晒干，更入脑麝各一钱，为末，
水丸皂子大。每一丸，人参煎汤化下。治毒盛痘出不快，疮黑倒靥神效。
宣风散 槟榔、陈皮，炙甘草各五钱，牵牛四两，为末，幼者五分，壮者一钱，食前蜜汤调服。治痘青
干黑陷，身不大热，烦渴腹胀而喘，二便赤涩，面赤闷乱大吐，乃热蓄于内，当利小便，不愈者宜服，利后宜
和脾胃。
单大戟丸（又名百祥丸） 红芽大戟一两，用浆水煮极软，去骨晒干，复入原汁中煮，汁尽焙干为末，
蒸饼丸粟米大。每二十丸，研赤麻汤下，量儿大小服之。治痘紫黑陷甚，寒战噤口，戛齿，身黄紫肿。
山栀仁汤 山栀仁、白鲜皮、赤芍、升麻各二分，寒水石、甘草各一分，紫草、薄荷各少许，水煎温服。
治痘疹及斑毒状如蚊咬，毒盛黑色。
猪尾膏 龙脑一钱为末，旋滴小活 猪尾血为丸小豆大。每一丸，烦躁，紫草汤下；陷伏，温酒下（或用
猪心血为丸亦可）。治痘出未透，心烦狂躁，气喘妄谵，便闭能食；或已发毒盛陷伏者，宜此速治，惟虚寒者
忌用。
无价四屎散 人屎用无疾童子者，猪、猫、犬屎用未破阳雄者，先于重九日各置净处，喂之饭食，勿令杂
食，至旬日换尽肠中宿垢，方收其屎阴干，候腊月八日，日未出时火 ，烟净白色为度，但表虚痘发不快，倒
靥黑陷及一切恶疮，每用一字，蜜水调服，其效如神。若紧急黑陷甚者，只用烧人屎亦好。
黑陷人齿猫齿兮，蝉蜕穿山兔血难寻。
人齿散 人齿脱落者，以砂锅固济，火 通红，取出候冷，为末。每三分，或入麝香少许尤妙。如痘出
不快，既出倒靥不浆，寒热脉迟，或服凉药过多，温酒下；痘出色黑，酒和猪尾血下；痘黑靥不出，加赤小豆
七粒，薄荷泡酒下；如七日前黑陷属热毒，灯心煎汤下；紫陷属气热，温酒下；血陷属血热，灰陷属血寒，俱
酒入麝香下；白陷属气寒，当归煎酒下；如黑陷甚者，用人齿五分，羌活一钱，穿山甲、麝香各少许，为末，
每一钱，麻黄、薄荷煎汤调下，一服便起。凡人齿不可过用一钱，过则阳尽出表，阴盛里寒，必痘烂濡泄，急
以君子汤加芎、归救之。
四齿散 人齿、猫齿、狗齿、猪齿各二钱
半，砂锅固济，火瘕通红候冷，为末。每五分，热酒调服。治痘不红、不起发、色灰白，或黑陷而焦，取效如
神。
单蝉蜕汤 蝉蜕二十一个，或加甘草一钱半，水煎服。治痘疹已出不透腹痛，或痘黑靥，或蕴积热毒及风
毒充于皮肤，瘙痒不止。惊悸癫痫，夜啼寒热亦宜。
周天散 蝉蜕五分，地龙一两，为末，每二钱，研乳香汤下。治痘疮黑陷，项强目直，腹胀喘急发搐，连
进二服而愈。
独圣散 穿山甲，取前足及嘴上者，炒为末。每五分，木香煎汤少入酒调下，或入麝少许尤妙。如七日后
黑陷，紫草煎汤下；紫陷，温酒下；血陷、灰陷，俱酒入麝香下；白陷，当归煎酒下。
兔血丸 朱砂一两∶用麻黄、升麻、紫草、荔枝壳四味同煮一日夜，研细，仍将四味煎汤飞过晒干，天灵盖
三钱洗净，用麝香三钱炙令黄色，为末和匀，腊月辰日取兔血或枣肉为丸绿豆大。每一丸，温酒化下。治气虚
血热，痘疮外黑赤而内白陷者神效。或只用药末，于发热未出时，用紫草、升麻、紫苏、葱白煎汤调下一分，表
汗出，痘亦稀。但天灵盖非烧化，与至险，不可轻用。痘家最忌秽恶，凡脐带、童便、犬秽、牛粪之类，非经
炼，闻之不可，而况服之乎！
牛蚕散牛黄丹，目黄便闭而脓不干；
古牛蚕散 牛蒡子五钱，僵蚕二钱半，入紫草三茎煎服，治痘早微热，晚大热，目黄胁动，身热手冷，发
甚如惊，惟虚寒者忌用。
牛黄丹 牛黄一钱，生大黄、寒水石、升麻各五钱，粉霜、朱砂各五分，为末，蜜丸黍米大。每十丸，
量儿加减，人参或紫草、薄荷煎汤下。治痘出大便不通，疮中脓水不干。
薤白汤熟艾汤，口渴下利而血相杂。
薤白汤 薤白半盏，豆豉一钱，山栀十枚，水煮薤白烂后，量儿大小服之，以去恶积。治痘疹身热下利，
黄赤脓血。
三黄熟艾汤 黄芩、黄连、黄柏、熟艾各等分，水煎服，或加糯米、紫草、甘草亦好。治痘疮正出，似收
未收，下利黄臭脓血，身热大渴，宜此汤以解其毒。
身热经曰喜二参，
二参汤 柴胡、麦门冬、人参、玄参、甘草各等分，草龙胆减半，水煎服，热退即止。治痘壮热，经日不除。
胃冷吐泻爱苏叶。
胃爱散 糯米一两，丁香十六个，木瓜三分，藿香、苏叶、甘草各一分，为末，每一钱或五分，粟米、
枣子煎汤下。治痘出，呕吐泄泻烦渴，胃中虚冷。
噫！宁医十男子，莫医一妇人；宁医十妇人，莫医一小儿；宁医十小儿，莫医一老儿。
痈疽虽属外科，用药却同内伤。
凡痈疽皆饮食、七情、房劳损伤脾肾肝所致，间有外邪相搏及小疮疡传染，亦皆因内有毒以召之也。是
以薛立斋专用补中益气汤以补后天，肾气丸以补先天，中间杂症，气用四君子，血用四物汤，痰用二陈汤，郁
用越曲丸，一同内科，惟初起内托、内消、和解，稍似伤寒，故曰必通内科与儒，而后可言知外科也。
托邪毒而不陷，分经络以用方。脑背尻臀，黄连羌活力浓；
黄连消毒散 黄连、羌活各一钱半，黄芩、黄柏、 本、防己、桔梗各五分，生地、知母、独活、防风、
归尾、连翘各四分，黄 、苏木、陈皮、泽泻各二分，人参、甘草各三分，水煎服。治足太阳经分，痈疽发于
脑项或背，肿势外散，热毒 发，麻木不痛，宜先灸之；或痛而发热，并宜服之。
内托羌活汤 羌活、黄柏各二钱，黄 一钱半，防风、 本、归尾各一钱，连翘、甘草、苍术、陈皮各
五分，肉桂三分，水二盏，酒一盏，煎至一盏，热服。治足太阳经分，痈疽发于尻臀，坚硬肿痛大作，两尺脉
紧无力。
臂膊乳膺，白芷升麻性凉。
白芷升麻汤 白芷一钱半，升麻、桔梗各一钱，甘草、红花各五分，黄 、酒芩各四钱，生芩三钱，分二
帖，水酒各半煎服。治手阳明经分，臂上生痈，此得八风之变也。
内托升麻汤 葛根、升麻、连翘各一钱半，黄 、当归、炙甘草各一钱。鼠粘子五分，肉桂三分，黄柏二
分，水二盏，酒一盏，同煎服。治两乳间出黑头疮，疮顶陷下作黑眼子，并乳痈初起亦宜。
十味中和（汤），疏邪于鬓耳侧胁；
石菖蒲、牛蒡子、羌活、川芎、防风、漏芦、荆芥、麦门冬、前胡、甘草各等分，水煎服。治手足少阳经
分发痈及时毒脉弦，在半表半里者。
八味逍遥散，降火于手足少阳。
当归、芍药、茯苓、白术、柴胡、甘草各一钱，牡丹、炒山栀各七分，水煎服。治脾胃血虚有热生痈；
或遍身瘙痒烦热，肢体作痛，头目昏重；或怔忡颊赤，口燥咽干，口舌生疮，耳内作痛；或发热盗汗，食少嗜
卧；或胸乳腹胀，小便不利；或手足少阳火盛，内热晡热，月经不调，寒热往来；或胁乳肿痛，耳下结核等症。
如头目不清加川芎五分，蔓荆子七分。
太阴腿内膝足， 柴附子汤入酒；
内托 柴汤 黄 二钱，柴胡一钱，羌活五分，连翘一钱半，土瓜根酒洗一钱，归尾七分半，肉桂三分，
生地、黄柏各二分，水二盏，酒一盏，煎热服。治足太阴、厥阴经分，疮生腿内近膝股，或痈或附骨疽，初起
肿痛势大。
附子六物汤 附子、防己、肉桂各一钱，茯苓、白术各七分，甘草二分半，姜煎服。治足太阴经流注，
四肢骨节烦疼，四肢拘急，自汗短气，小便不利，手足或时浮肿，兼治五痹。
少阴腿外 胫，内托黄 酒煎汤。
内托酒煎汤 黄 、归尾各二钱，柴胡一钱半，连翘、肉桂、大力子、白芷各一钱，升麻七分，黄柏、甘
草各五分，水、酒各半煎服。治足少阴经分，痈生腿外侧，或因寒湿得附骨疽，或微侵足阳明经分，坚硬肿痛不
能行。
泻心护心，心主痛痒∶
泻心汤 大黄一钱，黄连、黄芩、山栀、漏芦、泽兰、连翘、苏木各五分，量虚实水煎服。治痈疽疮毒，
肿盛发躁烦渴，脉洪实而数。
护心散 绿豆粉四钱，乳香一钱，为末。甘草煎汤调，时时细呷；疮已沉晦，加肉桂二钱，当归一钱，
煎汤调服。治诸发背疔肿，曾经汗下，毒瓦斯攻心，迷闷呕吐，喘嗽泄泻而痛，喉舌生疮，名曰心气绝，初起宜
服此药，最能反出毒瓦斯，不致内陷，发后亦可间服此药。加山枇杷皮末二钱，又可外敷止痛。
泻肝清肝，肝主疮疡。
龙胆泻肝汤 龙胆草、泽泻各一钱，车前子、木通、生地、当归尾、山栀、黄芩、甘草各五分，水煎。治肝
经湿热，或囊痈便毒，下疳悬痈，肿 作痛，小便涩滞，或妇人阴疮痒痛，或男子阴挺肿胀，或出脓水。
清肝汤 川芎、当归各一钱，白芍钱半，柴胡八分，山栀炒、牡丹皮各四分，水煎服。治肝经血虚而有
怒火。
清肝解郁汤 当归、白术各一钱半，人参、柴胡、牡丹皮、陈皮、川芎各八分，茯苓、贝母、芍药、熟地、
山栀各一钱，甘草五分，水煎服。治痈疽因肝经血虚风热，或肝经郁火伤血，乳内结核，或为肿溃不愈，凡肝
胆经气血不和之症，并皆治之。
清肝益荣汤 白术二钱，熟地一钱半，当归、山栀、木瓜、茯苓各一钱，龙胆草八分，川芎、芍药、柴
胡各七分，甘草五分，水煎服。治肝胆小肠经风热血燥，筋挛结核；或耳项胸乳胁肋作痛；或作瘊子，并一切
肝火血症。
栀子清肝汤 山栀、柴胡、牡丹皮各一钱，茯苓、川芎、当归、芍药、牛蒡子各七分，甘草五分，水煎服。
治三焦及足少阳经血虚肝火风热，耳内作痒，或生疮出水，或颈项胸乳等处作痛，或寒热晡甚，自汗口苦，或
目唇搐动等症。如作痛或寒热，加酒炒芩、连； 连太
阳，或头痛，加羌活。
柴胡清肝汤 柴胡、山栀各一钱半，黄芩、人参，川芎各一钱，连翘、桔梗各八分，甘草五分，水煎服。
治鬓疽及肝胆三焦风热怒火，以致颈项耳前后，或胸乳胁肋作痛，或晡热不食，寒热往来，呕吐泄泻等症。
惟未发为气血实欤，当夺泄以泻其壅盛，内疏清热，消毒败毒解毒，打脓追脓溃脓善用；
内疏黄连汤 连翘二钱，大黄一钱半，黄连、黄芩、山栀、薄荷、木香、槟榔、芍药、当归、桔梗、
甘草各一钱，水煎服，量虚实用之。治热毒在脏，痈疽肿硬，发热呕吐，大便秘结，脉洪而实，属纯阳症。一
方去木、槟，加金银花、牡丹皮。
清热消毒饮 金银花二钱，芍药、川芎、生地各一钱半，当归、黄连、山栀、连翘、甘草各一钱，水煎
服。治痈疽阳症肿痛，发寒热作渴等症。
人参败毒散 治一切痈疽 痛，发寒热，或拘急头痛属表症宜用。
黄连解毒汤 治痈疽 痛，烦躁饮冷，脉洪数，或狂言等症。二方见伤寒门。
打脓散 木鳖子虚者七个，实者九个，金银花、黄芩、黄连、黄柏、归尾各一钱，大黄一两，甘草节、
穿山甲各七分，芒硝三钱，水煎五更服，大便见脓，小便见血为效。治诸痈肿不放脓出。
追脓化毒散 穿山甲、当归、大黄各三钱，玄明粉，僵蚕、乳香、没药各一钱半，白芷二钱，水煎服。
Zicao Mutong Decoction (Purple Gromwell and Akebia Decoction): Composed of Zicao (Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Nuomi (Oryza Sativa Glutinosa Semen), each 4 fen, and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 2 fen. Decoct in water and take warm. It treats slow eruption of smallpox. If the stool is loose, remove Zicao and add Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix).
Huoxue San (Blood-Invigorating Powder): Composed of Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Guiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix caudex), Honghua (Carthami Flos), Zicao, each 5 qian, Muxiang 2 qian, Xuejie (Sanguis Draconis) 1 qian. Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose; if the rash color is pale white, mix with wine to take; if heat is extreme causing blood scorching and lack of redness/vitality, decoct Zicao in wine to take.
Xiao Huoxue San (Minor Blood-Invigorating Powder): Consists solely of Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) stir-fried and ground into powder. Take 1 qian per dose; if eruption is rapid, take with warm wine; if there is pain, take with warm water; if there is retrocession (inward collapse), decoct Zicao in water, add a little wine, and take. It greatly invigorates blood, stops pain, and removes irritability. If both legs are curled and spasmodic, add Gancao, which becomes Shaoyao Gancao Tang (Peony and Licorice Decoction).
Yunqi San (Qi-Regulating Powder): Consists of Bawei Shunqi San (Eight-Ingredient Qi-Regulating Powder) 5 fen each, Gancao 2.5 fen, Muxiang 1.5 fen. Grind into powder and take mixed with wine. It treats qi stagnation causing slow smallpox eruption and body pain due to dense flesh and pores.
Shuqi Yin (Qi-Dispersing Decoction): Composed of Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Baishao, Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Guiwei, each equal parts, and Gancao Jie (Licorice joint) half the amount. Decoct in water and take. It treats cases where excess qi and phlegm depression prevent eruption.
Lianqiao San (Forsythia Powder): Composed of Lianqiao, Fangfeng, Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Gancao, each equal parts. Decoct in water and take. It treats smallpox fever without cold limbs.
Wanjīn San (Ten-Thousand Gold Powder): Composed of Fangfeng 2 qian, Renshen and Chantui (Cicadae Periostracum) 1 qian each, Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) 3 leaves. Decoct in water and take; or grind into powder, take 2 qian per dose, mixed with decoction of flowering radish. This takes advantage of its "desire to erupt" property. It treats smallpox that has erupted but not evenly or thoroughly, with non-ruddy colors. For excess patterns, add Shengma.
Shuniu Tang (Burdock Decoction): Treats dense eruptions to prevent inward collapse. Composed of Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao, Digupi (Lycii Cortex), Huangqin, Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Lianqiao, each equal parts. Decoct in water and take warm. Stop when heat subsides. It treats dense smallpox eruptions with persistent body heat; it should be taken urgently to prevent the rash from turning blue, dry, black, and collapsed.
Tiaojie San (Regulating and Harmonizing Powder): Treats ice-hard texture caused by evil invasion. Composed of Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Danggui, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Mutong, Gange (Puerariae Radix), Gancao, Zisu (Perillae Folium), Zicao, each 2 fen, Renshen 1 fen. Decoct with Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) and Zao (Jujubae Fructus). Add Shanzhagen (Crataegi Radix) if ineffective. It treats smallpox that has erupted but was suppressed by wind-cold, causing Ying and Wei (nutritive and defensive qi) dysfunction; or injured by retained food, causing internal qi obstruction leading to ice-hard texture.
Hei Xuan Xuandu Xuanfeng Xi, Daji Shanzhi Zhuwei Wuji:
Xuandu Gao (Toxin-Releasing Ointment): Composed of Zhusha (Cinnabaris), Ruxiang (Olibanum) 1 liang each, Mayaxiao (Natrii Sulfas Crystallizatus), Gancao 5 qian each, Naobing (Borneolum Syntheticum), Shexiang (Moschus) 1 qian each. Grind into powder. On the 8th day of the 12th lunar month, mix with one cup of blood from a live piglet. Store in a new bamboo tube, seal with multiple layers of cotton paper, and hang on the beam above a latrine until Qingming Festival. Take out, dry, add Naobing and Shexiang 1 qian each, grind into powder, and make pills the size of soap seeds using water. Dissolve one pill in Renshen decoction and take. It treats severe toxin causing slow eruption, black and collapsed sores, with miraculous effect.
Xuanfeng San (Wind-Dispersing Powder): Composed of Binglang (Arecae Semen), Chenpi, Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice) 5 qian each, Qianniu (Pharbitidis Semen) 4 liang. Grind into powder. Children take 5 fen, adults take 1 qian, mixed with honey water before meals. It treats blue-dry-black collapsed smallpox, slight body heat, irritability, thirst, abdominal distension, wheezing, red/difficult urination/defecation, red face, confusion, severe vomiting. This indicates heat accumulation internally; promote urination. If not cured, take this medicine; after promoting urination, harmonize Spleen and Stomach.
Dan Daji Wan (Single Euphorbia Pill, also known as Baixiang Wan): Composed of Hongya Daji (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix) 1 liang. Boil in rice water until very soft, remove bones, dry, boil again in original juice until absorbed, then dry and grind into powder. Make pills the size of millet seeds using steamed bread dough. Take 20 pills per dose, crushed in Chima Tang (Red Hemp Decoction), adjust dosage according to child's age. It treats severe purple-black collapsed smallpox with chills, locked jaw, teeth grinding, yellow-purple swelling.
Shanzhiren Tang (Gardenia Seed Decoction): Composed of Shanzhiren (Gardeniae Semen), Baixianpi (Dictamni Cortex), Chishao, Shengma, each 2 fen, Hanshuishi (Calcitum), Gancao 1 fen each, Zicao, Bohe少许 (small amount). Decoct in water and take warm. It treats smallpox/rash and spot toxins resembling mosquito bites, with severe toxin presenting as black.
Zhuwei Gao (Pig Tail Ointment): Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum) 1 qian ground into powder, immediately drop blood from a live piglet to form pills the size of mung beans. Take one pill per dose; for irritability, take with Zicao decoction; for collapse, take with warm wine (or use pig heart blood). It treats incomplete eruption, mental agitation, mania, wheezing, delirium, constipation with appetite; or severe toxin collapse after eruption. Use quickly, but contraindicated for deficiency-cold patterns.
Wujia Sishi San (Priceless Four-Feces Powder): Human feces from healthy boys; pig, cat, dog feces from intact males. Place in clean areas on Double Ninth Festival, feed only rice for ten days to clear intestines, then collect and dry in shade. On the 8th day of the 12th lunar month, calcine before sunrise until smoke is pure white. Only for deficient exterior with slow eruption, retrocession, black collapse, and all malignant sores. Take one "yi zi" measure, mixed with honey water. Effect is miraculous. For urgent severe black collapse, calcined human feces alone is sufficient.
Hei Xuan Renchi Maochi Xi, Chantui Chuanshan Xuet Nanxun:
Renchi San (Human Tooth Powder): Use shed human teeth. Seal in a clay pot, calcine until red hot, cool, and grind into powder. Take 3 fen per dose; adding a little Shexiang is excellent. For slow eruption, retrocession without pus, chills/fever, slow pulse, or excessive cooling medicines, take with warm wine; for black color, take with wine and pig tail blood; for black crusts not emerging, add 7 Chi Xiaodou (Vigna Angularis Semina), take with mint-infused wine; for black collapse within 7 days due to heat toxin, take with Dengxin (Junci Medulla) decoction; for purple collapse due to qi-heat, take with warm wine; for blood collapse due to blood-heat, ash collapse due to blood-cold, take with wine and Shexiang; for white collapse due to qi-cold, take with Danggui decocted wine. For severe black collapse, use Renchi 5 fen, Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) 1 qian, Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama), Shexiang少许. Grind into powder, take 1 qian mixed with Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) and Bohe decoction. One dose causes rise. Do not exceed 1 qian of human teeth; excess causes yang to escape outward, yin excess/cold inside, leading to rotting sores and diarrhea. Urgently treat with Junzi Tang (Gentleman Decoction) plus Chuanxiong and Danggui.
Sichi San (Four Teeth Powder): Composed of Renchi, Maochi (Cat Tooth), Gouchi (Dog Tooth), Zhuchi (Pig Tooth) 2.5 qian each. Seal in clay pot, calcine until red hot, cool, and grind into powder. Take 5 fen per dose, mixed with hot wine. It treats non-red, non-raised, gray-white color, or black collapse and scorching, with miraculous effect.
Dan Chantui Tang (Single Cicada Decoction): Composed of 21 Chantui, or add Gancao 1.5 qian. Decoct in water and take. It treats incomplete eruption with abdominal pain, black crusts, accumulated heat/toxin, wind-toxin in skin causing itching, palpitations, epilepsy, night crying, chills/fever.
Zhoutian San (Universe Heaven Powder): Composed of Chantui 5 fen, Dilong (Pheretima) 1 liang. Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with crushed Ruxiang decoction. It treats black collapsed smallpox, stiff neck, staring eyes, abdominal distension, wheezing, convulsions. Two doses cure.
Dusheng San (Supreme Holy Powder): Use front feet and snout of Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama), stir-fry and grind into powder. Take 5 fen per dose, mixed with Muxiang decoction and a little wine, or add a little Shexiang. For black collapse after 7 days, take with Zicao decoction; for purple collapse, take with warm wine; for blood/ash collapse, take with wine and Shexiang; for white collapse, take with Danggui decocted wine.
Tuxue Wan (Rabbit Blood Pill): ZhuSha (Cinnabaris) 1 liang. Boil Mahuang, Shengma, Zicao, Lizhiqiao (Litchi Shell) together for one day and night, grind fine. Decoct these four ingredients again, filter, dry. Tianlinggai (Calvaria Humana) 3 qian washed clean. Shexiang 3 qian roasted yellow. Mix powders. On a Chen day in the 12th lunar month, mix with rabbit blood or jujube meat to form green bean-sized pills. Dissolve one pill in warm wine and take. It treats qi deficiency with blood heat, external black/red with internal white collapse, with miraculous effect. Alternatively, use powder only: before eruption during fever, take 1 fen mixed with Zicao, Shengma, Zisu, Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) decoction to induce sweating, making eruptions sparse. Tianlinggai is dangerous if not calcined; do not use lightly. Smallpox practitioners most abhor foul substances; umbilical cord, child urine, dog feces, cow dung, etc., must be refined; smelling them is forbidden, let alone ingesting.
Niucan San Niu Huang Dan, Mu Huang Bian Bi Er Nong Bu Gan:
Gu Niucan San (Ancient Burdock and Silkworm Powder): Niubangzi 5 qian, Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus) 2.5 qian, add Zicao 3 stems. Decoct and take. It treats early mild fever, evening high fever, yellow eyes, moving ribs, body heat with cold hands, seizures resembling convulsions. Contraindicated for deficiency-cold.
Niu Huang Dan (Cow Bezoar Pill): Niu Huang (Bovis Calculus) 1 qian, Sheng Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Hanshuishi, Shengma 5 qian each, Fen Shuang (Calomelas), ZhuSha 5 fen each. Grind into powder, make pills the size of millet seeds with honey. Take 10 pills per dose, adjust for children, take with Renshen or Zicao/Bohe decoction. It treats smallpox with constipation and non-drying pus/water in sores.
Xie Bai Tang Shuai Ai Tang, Kou Ke Xia Li Er Xue Xiang Za:
Xie Bai Tang (Allium Macrostemon Decoction): Xiebai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus) half cup, Douchi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum) 1 qian, Shanzhi 10 pieces. Boil Xiebai until soft, take according to child's age to remove evil accumulation. It treats smallpox/rash with body heat, diarrhea, yellow-red pus/blood.
San Huang Shuai Ai Tang (Three Yellows and Cooked Mugwort Decoction): Huangqin, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Shuai Ai (Artemisiae Argyi Folium), each equal parts. Decoct in water, or add Nuomi, Zicao, Gancao. It treats smallpox just erupting, seeming to resolve but not, with yellow foul pus/blood diarrhea, body heat, great thirst. Use this decoction to resolve toxin.
Shen Re Jing Yue Xi Er Shen,
Er Shen Tang (Two Shen Decoction): Chaihu, Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Renshen, Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Gancao, each equal parts, Caolongdan (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) half amount. Decoct in water and take. Stop when heat subsides. It treats high fever lasting many days.
Wei Leng Tu Xie Ai Ziyeh.
Wei'ai San (Stomach-Warming Powder): Nuomi 1 liang, Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) 16 pieces, Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus) 3 fen, Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba), Ziye (Perillae Folium), Gancao 1 fen each. Grind into powder. Take 1 qian or 5 fen per dose, mixed with millet/jujube decoction. It treats vomiting, diarrhea, irritability/thirst during eruption due to stomach deficiency-cold.
Ah! Better to treat ten men than one woman; better to treat ten women than one child; better to treat ten children than one elder.
Although carbuncles and sores belong to surgery, medication is similar to internal injuries.
All carbuncles and sores are caused by damage to Spleen, Kidney, Liver from diet, seven emotions, or sexual fatigue. Occasionally, external pathogens clash or minor sores infect, all because internal toxins attract them. Therefore, Xue Lizhai specifically uses Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify Middle and Augment Qi Decoction) to tonify acquired foundation, Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) to tonify congenital foundation. For mixed symptoms, use Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) for qi, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) for blood, Erchen Tang (Two Aged Decoction) for phlegm, Yueju Wan (Six郁 Pill) for depression. Treatment principles are same as internal medicine. Only initial stages use Neituo (Internal Support), Neixiao (Internal Resolution), Hejie (Harmonization), slightly resembling Shanghan (Cold Damage). Thus, one must understand internal medicine and Confucian learning to speak of mastering surgery.
Support evil toxin to prevent collapse, divide meridians to use formulas. Brain, back, buttocks: Huanglian and Qianghuo have strong power;
Huanglian Xiaodu San (Coptis Toxin-Resolving Powder): Huanglian, Qianghuo 1.5 qian each, Huangqin, Huangbai, Bencao (Ligustici Rhizoma), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Jiegeng 5 fen each, Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fangfeng, Guiwei, Lianqiao 4 fen each, Huangqi, Sumu (Sappan Lignum), Chenpi, Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) 2 fen each, Renshen, Gancao 3 fen each. Decoct in water and take. It treats Taiyang meridian area, carbuncles/sores on head/neck/back, spreading outward,郁 heat toxin, numbness without pain. Moxibustion first; or pain with fever, take this medicine.
Neituo Qianghuo Tang (Internal Support Qianghuo Decoction): Qianghuo, Huangbai 2 qian each, Huangqi 1.5 qian, Fangfeng, Bencao, Guiwei 1 qian each, Lianqiao, Gancao, Cangzhu, Chenpi 5 fen each, Rougui (Cinnamomi Ramulus) 3 fen. Water 2 cups, wine 1 cup, decoct to 1 cup, take hot. It treats Taiyang meridian area, carbuncles/sores on buttocks, hard/swollen/painful, tight/weak chi pulse.
Arms, breasts, chest: Baizhi and Shengma are cool.
Baizhi Shengma Tang (Angelica Dahurica and Cimicifuga Decoction): Baizhi 1.5 qian, Shengma, Jiegeng 1 qian each, Gancao, Honghua 5 fen each, Huangqi, Jiu Qin (Wine-fried Scutellaria) 4 qian each, Sheng Qin (Raw Scutellaria) 3 qian. Divide into two doses, decoct with half water/half wine. It treats Yangming meridian area, arm carbuncles, caused by eight winds.
Neituo Shengma Tang (Internal Support Shengma Decoction): Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Shengma, Lianqiao 1.5 qian each, Huangqi, Danggui, Zhi Gancao 1 qian each, Niubangzi 5 fen, Rougui 3 fen, Huangbai 2 fen. Water 2 cups, wine 1 cup, decoct together and take. It treats black-headed sores between breasts with depressed centers, and early breast carbuncles.
Shiwei Zhonghe Tang (Ten-Ingredient Harmonizing Decoction), disperses evil at temples/ears/sides/flanks;
Shichupu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Niubangzi, Qianghuo, Chuanxiong, Fangfeng, Loulu (Radix Peucedani), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Maidong, Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Gancao, each equal parts. Decoct in water and take. It treats Shaoyang meridian carbuncles and epidemic toxins with wiry pulse, in half-exterior half-interior.
Bawei Xiaoyao San (Eight-Ingredient Free and Easy Wanderer Powder), reduces fire in Shaoyang.
Danggui, Shaoyao, Fuling, Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chaihu, Gancao 1 qian each, Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Chao Shanzhi 7 fen each. Decoct in water and take. It treats Spleen/Stomach blood deficiency with heat generating carbuncles; or whole-body itching/heat, limb pain, heavy head/eyes; or palpitations, red cheeks, dry mouth/throat, mouth/tongue sores, ear pain; or fever/night sweats, poor appetite, lethargy; or chest/breast/abdominal distension, difficult urination; or Shaoyang fire excess, afternoon heat, irregular menstruation, alternating chills/fever; or flank/breast swelling/pain, submandibular nodes. Add Chuanxiong 5 fen, Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus) 7 fen if head/eyes unclear.
Taiyin inner legs/knees/feet: Chaihu and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) decoction with wine;
Neituo Chaihu Tang (Internal Support Chaihu Decoction): Huangqi 2 qian, Chaihu 1 qian, Qianghuo 5 fen, Lianqiao 1.5 qian, Tuguagen (Polygoni Cuspidati Radix) wine-washed 1 qian, Guiwei 7.5 fen, Rougui 3 fen, Shengdi, Huangbai 2 fen each. Water 2 cups, wine 1 cup, decoct hot and take. It treats Taiyin/Jueyin meridian areas, sores on inner thighs near knees, or carbuncles/deep bone abscesses, initial swelling/pain severe.
Fuzi Liuwu Tang (Aconite Six-Materials Decoction): Fuzi, Fangji, Rougui 1 qian each, Fuling, Baizhu 7 fen each, Gancao 2.5 fen. Decoct with Jiang. It treats Taiyin meridian flow-through, limb joint pain, stiffness, spontaneous sweat, shortness of breath, difficult urination, intermittent limb edema, also treats five bi syndromes.
Shaoyin outer legs/shins: Neituo Huangqi wine decoction.
Neituo Jian Tang (Internal Support Decoction): Huangqi, Guiwei 2 qian each, Chaihu 1.5 qian, Lianqiao, Rougui, Dali Zi (Niubangzi), Baizhi 1 qian each, Shengma 7 fen, Huangbai, Gancao 5 fen each. Half water/half wine decoction and take. It treats Shaoyin meridian area, sores on outer legs, or deep bone abscess from cold-damp, or slight Yangming involvement, hard/swollen/painful immobility.
Xixin (Drain Heart) Huxin (Protect Heart), Heart governs pain/itch:
Xixin Tang (Drain Heart Decoction): Dahuang 1 qian, Huanglian, Huangqin, Shanzhi, Loulu, Zelan (Leonuri Herba), Lianqiao, Sumu 5 fen each. Decoct in water according to deficiency/excess. It treats carbuncle/sores toxin, severe swelling/agitation/thirst, surging/full/rapid pulse.
Huxin San (Protect Heart Powder): Lvdoufen (Mung Bean Starch) 4 qian, Ruxiang 1 qian. Grind into powder. Mix with Gancao decoction, sip slowly. If sores are dull/heavy, add Rougui 2 qian, Danggui 1 qian, decoct and take. It treats various back carbuncles/boils after sweating/purging, toxin attacking heart, confusion/vomiting, wheezing/diarrhea/pain, throat/mouth sores, named Heart Qi Exhaustion. Take at onset to draw out toxin preventing collapse; can be taken intermittently after onset. Add Shanpitaopi (Loquat Bark) powder 2 qian for external application to stop pain.
Xiegan (Drain Liver) Qinggan (Clear Liver), Liver governs sores.
Longdan Xiegan Tang (Gentian Drain Liver Decoction): Longdancao (Gentianae Radix), Zexie 1 qian each, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Mutong, Shengdi, Guiwei, Shanzhi, Huangqin, Gancao 5 fen each. Decoct in water. It treats Liver meridian damp-heat, or scrotal carbuncles/groin sores/genital ulcers/perineal abscesses, swelling/pain, difficult urination, or female genital sores/itch/pain, male penile prolapse/swelling, or pus discharge.
Qinggan Tang (Clear Liver Decoction): Chuanxiong, Danggui 1 qian each, Baishao 1.5 qian, Chaihu 8 fen, Chao Shanzhi, Mudanpi 4 fen each. Decoct in water and take. It treats Liver meridian blood deficiency with fire anger.
Qinggan Jieyu Tang (Clear Liver Resolve Depression Decoction): Danggui, Baizhu 1.5 qian each, Renshen, Chaihu, Mudanpi, Chenpi, Chuanxiong 8 fen each, Fuling, Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Shaoyao, Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shanzhi 1 qian each, Gancao 5 fen. Decoct in water and take. It treats carbuncles/sores due to Liver blood deficiency wind-heat, or Liver depression fire injuring blood, breast nodules, or swelling/ulceration not healing. Treats all Liver/Gallbladder qi-blood disharmony.
Qinggan Yirong Tang (Clear Liver Enrich Glory Decoction): Baizhu 2 qian, Shudi 1.5 qian, Danggui, Shanzhi, Mugua, Fuling 1 qian each, Longdancao 8 fen, Chuanxiong, Shaoyao, Chaihu 7 fen each, Gancao 5 fen. Decoct in water and take. It treats Liver/Gallbladder/Small Intestine wind-heat blood dryness, tendon spasms/nodules; or ear/neck/chest/breast/flank pain; or warts, and all Liver fire blood diseases.
Zhizi Qinggan Tang (Gardenia Clear Liver Decoction): Zhizi, Chaihu, Mudanpi 1 qian each, Fuling, Chuanxiong, Danggui, Shaoyao, Niubangzi 7 fen each, Gancao 5 fen. Decoct in water and take. It treats Sanjiao/Shaoyang blood deficiency Liver fire wind-heat, ear itching/sores/discharge, neck/chest/breast pain, afternoon heat, sweating/bitter taste, eye/lip twitching. For pain/fever, add wine-fried Huangqin/Huanglian; if involving Taiyang or headache, add Qianghuo.
Chaihu Qinggan Tang (Bupleurum Clear Liver Decoction): Chaihu, Zhizi 1.5 qian each, Huangqin, Renshen, Chuanxiong 1 qian each, Lianqiao, Jiegeng 8 fen each, Gancao 5 fen. Decoct in water and take. It treats temple carbuncles and Liver/Gallbladder/Sanjiao wind-heat/fire anger causing neck/ear/chest/breast/flank pain, afternoon heat/anorexia, alternating chills/fever, vomiting/diarrhea.
If not yet erupted due to qi-blood excess, use purging to drain abundance, internal draining clearing heat, disinfecting/resolving detoxifying, breaking pus/pursuing pus/rupturing pus skillfully used;
Neishu Huanglian Tang (Internal Draining Coptis Decoction): Lianqiao 2 qian, Dahuang 1.5 qian, Huanglian, Huangqin, Zhizi, Bohe, Muxiang, Binglang, Shaoyao, Danggui, Jiegeng, Gancao 1 qian each. Decoct in water, use according to deficiency/excess. It treats heat toxin in zang organs, hard swollen carbuncles/sores, fever/vomiting, constipation, surging/full pulse, pure yang syndrome. One formula removes Muxiang/Binglang, adds Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Mudanpi.
Qingre Xiaodu Yin (Heat-Clearing Toxin-Resolving Drink): Jinyinhua 2 qian, Shaoyao, Chuanxiong, Shengdi 1.5 qian each, Danggui, Huanglian, Zhizi, Lianqiao, Gancao 1 qian each. Decoct in water and take. It treats yang syndrome carbuncles/sores swelling/pain, chills/fever/thirst.
Renshen Baidu San (Ginseng Resisting Poison Powder): Treats all carbuncles/sores hidden pain, chills/fever, or stiffness/headache exterior syndrome.
Huanglian Jiedu Tang (Coptis Resolving Toxicity Decoction): Treats carbuncles/sores hidden pain, irritability/cold drink desire, surging/rapid pulse, or delirium. See Shanghan section for both formulas.
Dan Nong San (Break Pus Powder): Mumiezi (Momordicae Semen) 7 hollow/9 solid ones, Jinyinhua, Huangqin, Huanglian, Huangbai, Guiwei 1 qian each, Dahuang 1 liang, Gancao Jie, Chuanshanjia 7 fen each, Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) 3 qian. Decoct in water, take at dawn. Effect seen when pus in stool, blood in urine. It treats carbuncles/sores not discharging pus.
Zhui Nong Huadu San (Pursue Pus Transform Toxin Powder): Chuanshanjia, Danggui, Dahuang 3 qian each, Xuanmingfen (Mirabilite), Jiangcan, Ruxiang, Moyao (Myrrhae Resina) 1.5 qian each, Baizhi 2 qian. Decoct in water and take.
