Ge Hua Jie Cheng Tang (Kudzu Flower Decoction to Relieve Intoxication): Treats alcohol-induced vomiting and regurgitation, mental restlessness, chest fullness with loss of appetite, and difficulty in urination.
Ingredients: Qingpi (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae, 3 fen), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 5 fen), Juhong (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Rubrum), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Zhuling (Polyporus, 1.5 qian each), Fuling (Poria, 1.5 qian each), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, 2 qian each), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2 qian each), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 2 qian each), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 2 qian each), Baikouren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, 5 qian each), Sharen (Amomi Fructus, 5 qian each), Ge Hua (Flos Puerariae, 5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with warm water. Once a slight sweat is achieved, the alcohol disease will be cured.
Luo Qianfu stated: "Alcohol is excessively hot and toxic; its aroma and flavor are purely Yang, constituting a formless substance. If injured by alcohol, one should only employ dispersing methods to induce sweating for cure, which is the most excellent approach. Alternatively, promoting diuresis is the next best option. These two methods eliminate dampness from the upper and lower pathways respectively, leaving no room for alcohol disease." However, contemporary practitioners treat this condition by using excessively hot pills to purge downwards, or employing Qiuniu (Semina Koelreuteriae) and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) to purge. This treats a disease of formless Yuan Qi but instead damages formless Yin Blood, which is a grave error.

Huangqi Jianzhong Tang (Astragalus and Construct the Middle Decoction): Treats various deficiencies presenting with interior urgency.
Ingredients: Sheng Baishao (Raw Paeoniae Radix Alba, 4 qian), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, 3 pieces), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1.5 qian), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Xiaoguizhi (Minor Cinnamon Twig), Zhi Huangqi (Honey-fried Astragali Radix) (each 2 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Decoct in water, remove dregs, add 4 qian of Yitang (Maltose), and melt before ingestion. For shortness of breath and chest fullness, add Shengjiang. For abdominal fullness, remove Dazao and add Fuling. To treat insufficiencies due to Lung Qi deficiency, add Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) for tonifying Qi.
Er Jia Longgu Tang (Two-Shells and Dragon Bone Decoction): Treats various insufficiencies arising from Xu Lao (Consumptive Disease), seminal emission in men, nocturnal emissions/dream intercourse in women, and floating heat with sweating.
Ingredients: Sheng Baishao (Raw Paeoniae Radix Alba), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Sheng Longgu (Os Draconis) (each 3 qian), Sheng Muli (Concha Ostreae, 4 qian, crushed), Zhi Cao (Honey-fried Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Baiwei (Celtidis Radix) (each 2 qian), Pao Fuzi (Processed Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 qian), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, 4 pieces).
Preparation and Administration: Decoct in water and take orally.
Fu Mai Tang (Pulse-Restoring Decoction) (also known as Zhi Gancao Tang, see "Shanghan").
Treats various deficiencies, sweating accompanied by oppression, knotted and intermittent pulse with palpitations. If the patient's movement is normal, death will occur within 100 days; if critical, death occurs in 11 days (this treats empty and exhausted blood vessels and lack of strength). Using this formula benefits the blood. Whenever a knotted and intermittent pulse is observed, even if the patient moves normally, death will occur within 100 days. If more critical and unable to move, death will occur within 10 days. The meaning is extremely clear; previous interpreters were mostly mistaken.
Yu Jiayan said: "This is Zhang Zhongjing's sacred formula for treating Shanghan with knotted/intermittent pulse and palpitations, where pathogenic factors are few and deficiency is predominant. It is not recorded in *Jingui Yaolue*, but since *Qianjin Yi* frequently uses this formula to treat Xu Lao, it is indeed credible, hence its association with *Qianjin Fang*. Patients with Xu Lao constitution often have exterior heat mixed with Yin deficiency. Therefore, in this treatise, sweating with oppression means that releasing the exterior is incorrect, and even treating Yin deficiency alone is incorrect. Only by using this formula can one achieve sweating, pulse recovery, and heat resolution, bringing comfort to the person—truly a sacred method. However, patients with Xu Lao have inherently deficient Stomach fluids, unlike the acute Shanghan where pathogens are few and deficiency is predominant. The large doses of Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) and Shengjiang cause fluids to scatter outward with the heat. Once fluids scatter outward, they are hard to recover, often resulting in profuse sweating lasting a day and night. After passing this hurdle, one must urgently modify this formula by removing Guizhi and Shengjiang, adding three times the amount of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) subsequently. This way, fluids regenerate, Ying and Wei become abundant, and various deficiencies are restored. Is this not a significant benefit?"
(Sun Nan Xindian) Commentary: For treating Xu Lao, apart from Jianzhong formulas, there is no other way out. However, there is another type where Spleen Yang is not deficient, but the Stomach has dry fire; one should follow contemporary experts' methods for nourishing Stomach Yin. Ye Tianshi said: "Taiyin Wet Earth begins to transport upon receiving Yang; Yangming Dry Earth becomes tranquil upon receiving Yin, because the Spleen prefers rigid dryness, while the Stomach prefers soft moistening." From this method, I have realized countless approaches. The formulas listed below should be studied deeply.
Ye Shi Yangwei Fang (Ye's Stomach-Nourishing Formula): Treats Stomach deficiency leading to poor appetite, Earth failing to generate Metal, low voice, and weak Qi.
Ingredients: Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Sheng Biandou (Raw Dolichos Lablab Semen), Yuzhu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Sangye (Mori Folium), Shashen (Glehniae Radix).
This formula may also include Sheng Guya (Sprouted Setaria Italica Semen), Guang Chenpi (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae), Bai Damai Ren (White Hordei Semen), Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis), and Wumei (Fructus Mume). For extreme dryness, add Ganshe Zhi (Saccharum Sinense Juice).
Ye Shi Fang (Ye's Formula): Treats Yin deficiency with night sweats. Do not use Danggui Liuhuang Tang (Angelica and Rehmannia Pill) because its bitter taste is unsuitable for the Stomach. This formula employs the Sour-Sweet method to transform Yin (combined with the Pungent-Sweet method to transform Yang from the previously mentioned modified Da Jianzhong Tang, one can comprehend the subtlety of medication).
Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Wuwei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus), Zhi Cao (Honey-fried Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Hulian (Nelumbinis Plumula), Fushen (Poria cum Radix).
Preparation and Administration: Decoct in water and take orally.
Another Formula: The *Classic* states: "For those with insufficient form, warm with Qi; for those with insufficient essence, tonify with Flavor." If food intake is normal but muscles waste away daily, one should use animal products (flesh and blood) to nourish.
Ingredients: Niu Suisui (Bovine Marrow), Yang Suisui (Ovine Marrow), Zhu Suisui (Porcine Marrow), Hulian (Nelumbinis Plumula), Fushen (Poria cum Radix), Gouqi (Lycii Fructus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Qishi (Euryales Semen).
Preparation and Administration: Decoct in water and take orally.
Another Formula: Treats muscle wasting and fat depletion, rapid inhalation with panting, inability to cough or produce sound, requiring pressing on the hypochondrium for slight strength, and throat dryness extending to the chest and epigastrium upon waking. This indicates exhaustion of the Five Fluids, a condition deemed untreatable. One resorts to human body fats and marrows as a last resort.
Xian Heche (Fresh Placenta Humanus) (Note: This ingredient should not be used), Ren Ru Zhi (Human Milk), Zhen Qiushi (Real Urine Sediment), Xueyu Hui (Calcinated Hair Ash).
For Yin deficiency with floating Yang, the method of using shellfish/minerals to subdue Yang is appropriate. Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill) minus Danpi (Moutan Cortex) and Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), plus Qiushi (Urine Sediment), Guijiao (Colla Corii Corii), Muli (Concha Ostreae), Hulian (Nelumbinis Plumula), etc., fall into this category. Using Haishen Jiao (Collus Holothuriae), Dancai Jiao (Collus Mytili), and Yanwo (Swallow's Nest) follows this same principle.
(Sun Nan Xindian) Commentary: In cases of extreme deficiency, formless herbs cannot provide tonification. For extreme muscle wasting, various marrow and Lamb Colla are necessary. For extreme Yin deficiency within Yin, Turtle Colla, Human Milk Powder, Oyster Shell, Urine Sediment, and Cervus Elaphus Antler Powder are necessary. For extreme Yang deficiency within Yin, Deer Antler Colla, Cervus Elaphus Antler, and Canis Lupus Familiaris Testis are necessary. Apply this reasoning analogously.
Hei Di Huang Wan (Black Earth and Rehmannia Pill): Treats excessive Yang and deficient Yin, Spleen and Stomach insufficiency, sexual excess leading to emaciation and weakness, and complexion that is often greenish-yellow without fixed color. This is a formula for tonifying Kidney and benefiting Stomach.
Ingredients: Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1 jin, soaked in wine), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 1 jin), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, 0.5 jin), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 1 liang in autumn/winter, 5 qian in summer, 7 qian in spring).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder, refine with Jujube flesh to make pills the size of Wutong seeds. Take 100 pills with Rice Decoction. It is excellent for treating chronic hemorrhoids due to Blood deficiency (this is a sacred formula for treating Blood loss and Spleen Cold...
