Fengsui Dan (Seal the Marrow Pill)
Ingredients: Huangbai [Phellodendri Cortex] (salt-fried), Zhicao [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Honey-fried)] (7 qian), Sharen [Amomi Fructus] (1 liang).
Preparation and Usage: Grind into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a Chinese quince seed. Take 3 qian per dose, delivered with light salt soup. Alternative method: Take Roucongrong [Cynomorii Herba] 5 qian, remove scales, soak in wine overnight. Next day, decoct in water for three to four boils, and use this liquid to deliver the pills.
Formula Analysis: Huangbai is the Sovereign herb due to its bitter and cold nature. Bitterness strengthens the Kidney; when Kidney Qi is strong, Yin fluids do not overflow. Coldness clears and purifies; like autumn arriving, Dragon Fire does not flare up excessively, allowing Water and Fire to interact, ensuring Essence remains in its proper place. Licorice assists by relieving urgency, clearing internal heat from various fires and Liver Fire, and harmonizing Earth and Water to solidify storage. Particularly ingenious is the use of Sharen as a guiding herb. As stated in Neijing [Classic of Internal Medicine]: "When Kidney Fire causes dryness, urgently consume pungent substances to moisten it." Here, the pungency of Sharen unblocks the Triple Burner, promotes fluid distribution, and guides the Essence of the Five Zang and Six Fu organs back to the Kidney, normalizing Kidney grasping of Qi, thereby naturally storing Marrow within the Kidney.
Wendan Tang [Warm the Gallbladder Decoction] (Luo Shi's Nei Jing Shi Yi [Supplement to the Classic of Internal Medicine] states: "The cause of mania and epilepsy is phlegm-fluid flooding the Heart, causing the Spirit to lose its residence; thus, warming the Gallbladder is appropriate. This formula also treats epilepsy.")
Ingredients: Banxia [Pinelliae Rhizoma], Fuling [Poria], Chenpi [Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium], Zhicao [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Honey-fried)] (each 1 qian); Zhuru [Bambusae Caulis in Taenia] (3 qian); Zhishi [Aurantii Fructus Immaturus] (8 fen).
Usage: Add fresh ginger and jujubes, decoct in water, and take.
Shen Qianlü commented: "The Heart stores Shen [Spirit], the Liver stores Hun [Ethereal Soul], and the Kidneys store Jing [Essence]. The Heart governing dreams is the Heart's Shen; forms seen in dreams are the Liver's Hun; essence lost in dreams is the Kidney's Jing. Essentially, the Heart is the Monarch, and the Liver and Kidneys are the Ministers. It is impossible for the Monarch Fire to move without the Minister Fire following. One should first treat Heart Fire, then address other organs. It is advisable to modify Huanglian Qingxin Yin [Coptis Decoction to Clear the Heart] or Fushen Tang [Poria with Hostwood Decoction]."
Huanglian Qingxin Yin [Coptis Decoction to Clear the Heart]
Ingredients: Huanglian [Coptidis Rhizoma], Shengdi [Rehmanniae Radix], Gancao [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma], Danggui [Angelicae Sinensis Radix], Renshen [Ginseng Radix], Fushen [Poria with Hostwood], Zaoren [Ziziphi Spinosae Semen], Yuanzhi [Polygalae Radix], Lianzi [Nelumbinis Semen].

Fushen Tang [Poria with Hostwood Decoction]
Ingredients: Fushen [Poria with Hostwood], Yuanzhi [Polygalae Radix], Changpu [Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma], Fuling [Poria], Huanglian [Coptidis Rhizoma], Shengdi [Rehmanniae Radix], Renshen [Ginseng Radix], Danggui [Angelicae Sinensis Radix], Gancao [Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma], Lianzi [Nelumbinis Semen], Zaoren [Ziziphi Spinosae Semen].
Usage: Decoct in water and take orally.
Wenge Jin Qi Gao [Clam Shell Navel Paste] (from Zhongfu Tang [Hall of Bestowed Blessings]): Treats nocturnal emission.
Usage: Grind Wen Ge [Veneris Testudo] into fine powder and apply to the navel of a daughter; emission will stop immediately.
Sixian Dan [Sage Immortal Pill] (from Zhongfu Tang [Hall of Bestowed Blessings]): A divine formula for treating nocturnal emission caused by Yin deficiency with hyperactive fire.
Ingredients: Lianxu [Nelumbinis Stamen] (10 liang), Shilianrou [Nelumbinis Semen] (10 liang, remove green embryo and outer skin), Qianshi [Euryales Semen] (10 liang, remove shell).
Preparation and Usage: Grind the above into powder. Take 3 jin of Jinyingzi [Rosa Laevigatae Fructus], remove hairs and seeds, wash clean, decoct in a large pot with water, filter, and decoct again. Add Yitang [Malt Sugar], mix evenly with the herbal powder, and form pills the size of a Chinese quince seed. Take 70-80 pills per dose.
Guizhi Longgu Muli Tang [Cinnamon Twig, Dragon Bone, and Oyster Shell Decoction] (formula details found in Jin Gui Yao Lue [Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet]): Treats seminal emission in men and dream intercourse in women.
Sun Yikui (Courtesy name Xindian) annotation: Frequent dreaming indicates floating of Shen [Spirit]. Dragons are spiritual beings of heaven and earth; thus, Longgu [Dragoneos Os] best tonifies Spirit and treats delirious dreams. Combined with the salty-cold nature of Muli [Ostreum Concha], it guides Fire back to its source. Hence, this formula is used. For cases with erections leading to emission, add 1 qian of Lianzin Xin [Nelumbinis Plumula] and 2 qian of Sheng Zaoren [Raw Ziziphi Spinosae Semen] to tonify Kidney and secure Essence; this is extremely effective.
Wendan Tang [Warm the Gallbladder Decoction]: Is Erchen Tang [Two-Aged Decoction] plus 3 qian of Zhuru [Bambusae Caulis in Taenia] and 8 fen of Zhishi [Aurantii Fructus Immaturus].
Erjia Longgu Tang [Dragon Bone Decoction Plus Two] (see "Xu Lao" [Deficiency Consumption]); Sijunzi Tang [Four Gentlemen Decoction] (modification details detailed in this treatise).
