Zhimu Yin (Anemarrhena Decoction)
12. When a pregnant woman frequently experiences mental restlessness, it is termed "Zifan" (Pregnancy-related Mental Restlessness). This condition arises from fetal heat disturbing the Heart spirit and can be cured with Zhimu Yin. The formula consists of Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Fuling (Poria), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). If the heat is severe, add Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu); if there is Qi deficiency, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma); if there is thirst, add Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) for decoction and administration.
[Note] If a pregnant woman has no other symptoms but experiences frequent mental restlessness, it is called "Zifan." This is caused by stagnant heat within the fetus ascending to disturb the Heart. It is appropriate to use Zhimu Yin, which comprises Huangqin, Zhi Mu, Maidong, Fuling, Huangqi, and Gancao. For severe heat, add Xijiao; for Qi deficiency, add Renshen; for thirst, add Shigao for decoction and administration.

[Note] When a pregnant woman suddenly falls, experiences convulsions, and loses consciousness, then awakens spontaneously after a moment and returns to normal shortly thereafter, this is called "Zixian."
