Translation:
Clause: The eyelid is stiff and the eyeball hurts; the eyelid sac is swollen and hard, accompanied by an opacity formed from blood stasis, causing pain in the eyes. This is due to accumulated heat in the chest and diaphragm and hyperactive liver wind. Externally, apply a plaster to reduce swelling and resolve blood stasis (Xinzhang Gao), and internally take Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder), which contains Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Heishen (Scrophulariae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), and Chongweizi (Leonuri Fructus).
Formula: Xinzhang Gao (Plaster for Reducing Swelling) is found at the end of this volume.
Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder):
Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) each 1 qian; Heishen (Scrophulariae Radix) 1.5 qian; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, stir-fried), Chongweizi (Leonuri Fructus) each 1 qian.
Grind the above herbs into coarse powder. Add two cups of water, decoct until one cup remains, and take warm after meals.
Annotation: [1] In the early stage of "stiff eyelid and painful eyeball," there is often a sensation of pain and distension. Over time, the eyelid becomes swollen and hard, and the eyeball hurts.
[2] This condition arises from accumulated heat in the chest and diaphragm and toxic wind from the Liver channel rushing upward to the eyes. It is appropriate to wash away the blood stasis, externally apply Xinzhang Gao (Plaster for Reducing Swelling), and internally take Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder).
Clause: "Rooster Comb and Mussel Flesh" grows in the inner canthus, caused by accumulated heat in the Stomach and Heart combined with Liver wind. The lesion may be green or red, resembling the shape of a rooster comb or mussel flesh. Mild cases invade only the Wind Wheel (cornea), while severe cases cover the pupil. Treatment involves hooking and cutting followed by taking Choufeng Tang (Wind-Extinguishing Decoction), containing Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Heishen (Scrophulariae Radix), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix); or alternatively, using Chongwei Wan (Leonuri Pill), containing Chongweizi (Leonuri Fructus), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shijueming (Arconis Concha), Heishen (Scrophulariae Radix), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), and Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix).
Formula: Choufeng Tang (Wind-Extinguishing Decoction):
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) 1 qian; Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) 1.5 qian; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian; Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) 1 qian; Heishen (Scrophulariae Radix) 1.5 qian; Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 1.5 qian; Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 2 qian.
Grind the above herbs into coarse powder. Add two cups of water, decoct until one cup remains, remove the dregs, and take warm after meals.
Chongwei Wan (Leonuri Pill):
Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) 1 liang; Shijuezi (Arconis Concha, calcined) 1 liang; Heishen (Scrophulariae Radix) 1 liang; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 1 liang; Fuling (Poria) 1 liang; Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, stir-fried) 3 liang; Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) 1.5 liang; Chongweizi (Leonuri Fructus) 2 liang.
Grind the above herbs into fine powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 3 qian on an empty stomach with tea infusion.
Annotation: [1] The condition known as "Rooster Comb and Mussel Flesh" originates in the inner canthus. It may be green or red, resembling the shape of a rooster comb or mussel flesh. It gradually grows, invading from the outer canthus to the Wind Wheel (cornea), and over time may cover the entire eye.
[2] This condition is caused by accumulated heat in the Spleen and Stomach and Liver wind rushing upward.
[3] Initially, surgical intervention such as hooking and cutting should be performed, followed by administering Choufeng Tang (Wind-Extinguishing Decoction) or Chongwei Wan (Leonuri Pill).
