Daqing (Qingdai, Indigo Naturalis), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, Ophiopogon Root) (decored of heart), Chidouchi (Fermented Soybean, Fermented Sojae Semen), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, Gypsum) (crushed), Tinglizi (Descurainiae Semen seu Lepidii Semen, Descurainia Seed or Lepidium Seed) (stir-fried), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, Gardenia Fruit), Gualugen (Trichosanthis Radix, Trichosanthes Root), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, Immature Bitter Orange) (parched), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, Peony Root), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, Anemarrhena Rhizome), Fuling (Poria, Poria Cocos), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Rhubarb Root and Rhizome), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, Scutellaria Root), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Licorice Root and Rhizome) (parched, each 4 liang for Daqing group, 2 liang for Huangqin group).
The above fifteen medicinal materials are crushed, sifted into powder, mixed with refined honey, and formed into pills the size of a wu-tzu (walnut seed). Take five pills with warm water, twice daily. If there is no improvement after five days, continue taking them. Stop when efficacy is achieved.
Method for administering purgatives:
Whenever fever and restlessness occur after taking powder formulations, this formula should be used immediately to purge. This formula can also be used to purge various cinnabar pills and mineral drugs.
Take three sheng of millet, cook it into a thick porridge and reduce it by boiling. Mix in one jin of lard. Cook thoroughly. Do not eat the previous night. In the early morning, eat it until full. In the evening, take the purgative medicine; the residue will be expelled along with the decoction, which is highly effective. If the purged material is completely expelled and does not recur, do not take more. If it recurs, take it again.
Another formula:
Feizhurou (Fat Pork, Fat of Sus Scrofa Domestica) (5 jin), Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus, Green Onion Stem), Xiebai (Allii Macrostemii Bulbus, Garlic Stem).
The above three ingredients are boiled together. Eat on an empty stomach in the morning. Consume all at once in one sitting.
To suppress drug activation and frequent heat symptoms, seeking a method to purge and clear them:
Take Zhushenzhi (Lard from Kidney of Sus Scrofa Domestica, Kidney Lard). Ensure no water is mixed in. Render it completely over fire, collecting the oil. When the temperature is suitable, take two or three he as a single dose. One day and night, five or six sheng may be discharged; the medicine will gradually pass out with the stool. This is very effective.
Another formula:
Make Feizhurou (Fat Pork) into a paste of one sheng. Mix according to usual methods. Eat it all in one sitting on an empty stomach in the early morning. Soon, borborygmus (rumbling in the abdomen) will occur. Once the rumbling stops, immediately take the purgative medicine, which will be expelled. Collect it in a vessel, wash with water. If stones are not fully expelled, prepare and take it again as before.
General ointment formula for treating disseminated sores and swelling:
Sheng Hufen (Lead Carbonate, White Lead Powder), Wu Jingzi (Brassicae Napus Semen, Rape Seed) (stir-fried, pounded separately), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, Bitter Apricot Seed) (skin and tip removed, double kernel, pounded separately), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, Coptis Rhizome) (pounded into powder), Shuiyin (Hydrargyrum, Mercury), Zhuzhi (Porci Adeps, Pig Lard).
The above six ingredients, except for Shuiyin which is doubled, are in equal parts. Mix and grind with lard until well combined. Apply the mercury-containing ointment to the sores, three times daily.
For cases with redness and swelling, massage with ointment:
Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Recens, Fresh Rehmannia Root), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Rhubarb Root and Rhizome) (1 liang), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, Bitter Apricot Seed) (20 pieces, skin and tip removed, double kernel), Sheng Shanglu Gen (Phytolaccae Radix, Pokeweed Root) (2 liang).
The above four ingredients are chopped, soaked in vinegar overnight, and decocted with one sheng of lard until Shanglu turns black. Strain and form into an ointment. Massage three times daily.
For disseminated eruptions with small sores, this is the fastest formula to clear heat:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, Coptis Rhizome), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, Sodium Sulfate) (each 5 liang).
The above two ingredients are decocted in eight sheng of water. Boil Huanglian to obtain four sheng of liquid, then strain. Add Mangxiao and stir until dissolved. Apply with cloth to the affected area, amount not restricted.
Decoction for washing sores:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, Coptis Rhizome), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, Scutellaria Root), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, Sophora Root) (each 8 liang).
The above three ingredients are chopped, decocted in three dou of water to obtain one dou of liquid, strained, and cooled to extremely cold temperature. Then wash the sores, three times daily.
Formula for treating unbearable pain and itching from eruptive sores:
Take Lengshi (Cold Stone), crush it, sieve it, and make it into a powder. Apply to the sores, five or six times daily. The dry sores will naturally become clean and heal without exception. Effective.
After taking powder formulations, if the body becomes edematous, it is mostly due to exposure to cold. It is advisable to take Binglang Tang (Betel Nut Decoction):
Dabinglang (Arecae Semen, Areca Nut) (35 pieces).
The above single ingredient: first remove the nut meat, pound into powder, and sieve finely. Then chew the husk, decoct in seven sheng of water to obtain two sheng. Add the nut powder. Divide into two doses. After finishing, if diarrhea occurs, recovery follows.
Formula for dispersing Maikefu (Barley Bran):
Take Barley, stir-fry until sweat appears. Stop when dry, do not burn too much. Husk it, wash cleanly, steam until cooked, sun-dry, and stir-fry until fragrant. Pound into fine powder. Pass through silk gauze. Mix with cold water and take three fangcun bi (square-inch scoop) per dose. Twice daily. For redness and swelling, massage is recommended; adding honey is also good.
