Yao Yong (abscess of the waist) occurs below the soft ribs, in the area close to the waist. Treatment should harmonize Yin and Yang. The prescription is as follows:
Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), 1 liang; Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), 1 liang; Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), 1 liang; Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), 3 liang; Fang Ji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), 1 qian; Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), 3 qian.
Decoct with water and take orally.
Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), 2 liang; Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), 3 liang; Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), 5 qian; Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), 10 liang.
Decoct with water and take orally. Pain decreases after one dose; internal resolution occurs after two doses.
Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), 3 liang; Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), 2 liang; Chao Zhi Zi (Fried Gardenia Fruit), 3 qian; Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), 3 qian.
Decoct with water and take orally. Recovery is expected after approximately two doses.
Chang Yong (intestinal abscess) arises between the large intestine and the small intestine. Symptoms include thirst, dysuria resembling strangury (Lin syndrome), frequent sweating, swelling and pain in the lower abdomen that cannot be touched by hand. If located in the large intestine, the right leg is flexed and cannot extend; if located in the small intestine, the left leg is flexed and cannot extend. The prescription is as follows:
Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), 8 liang; Di Yu (Sanguisorbae Radix), 1 liang; Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen), 5 qian; Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), 1 liang.
First, decoct Jin Yin Hua in water to obtain two bowls of liquid. Decoct the remaining herbs in more than ten bowls of water to obtain two bowls of liquid. Mix the Jin Yin Hua liquid with the herbal liquid and divide into two doses: one taken in the morning and one taken before sleep. Recovery occurs after two doses.
For all intestinal abscesses, internal resolution is mandatory. Since the pathogenic fire is extremely urgent, it cannot be resolved with a cup of water; a large dosage is required for efficacy. However, using large dosages of detoxifying herbs may damage Yuan Qi (primordial qi). Only Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos) can both clear toxicity and nourish Yin, allowing for heavy use. If used in insufficient amounts, it will be ineffective.
Qi Hou Yong (abscess behind the navel) occurs at the Ming Men acupoint (Gate of Life) on the lower back, directly opposite the navel. The pathology involves deficiency of True Water (Kidney Yin) and flourishing of pathogenic fire. Without substantial tonification of True Water, the pathogenic fire will not dissipate, and the toxin cannot eliminate itself. At the initial stage, before ulceration, the following prescription is suitable:
Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), 5 liang; Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), 1 liang; Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), 1 liang; Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex), 3 qian; Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen), 3 qian.
First, decoct Jin Yin Hua in ten bowls of water until four bowls remain. Divide this into two portions. Use two bowls to decoct the other herbs to obtain one bowl of liquid; drink this on an empty stomach. Shortly after, use the remaining two bowls of Jin Yin Hua liquid to decoct the previous dregs to obtain another bowl of liquid; take this orally. Continue for two doses.
If ulceration has already occurred, change to the following prescription:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), 3 liang; Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), 5 liang; Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), 3 qian; Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), 1 qian; Shan Zhu Yu (Corni Fructus), 1 liang; Bei Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), 3 qian; Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), 3 liang; Fu Shen (Poria Cum Radix), 3 qian.
Decoct in ten bowls of water to obtain one bowl of liquid; take orally.
