Hemp seed (Cannabis Fructus) five sheng, Phytolaccae Radix (Shanglu) one jin, Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) three liang, Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi, prepared) one liang, Adzuki Bean (Chixiaodou) three sheng.
First, pound the hemp seeds until they become warm, then boil them in three dou of water to obtain one dan and three sheng of liquid. Remove the dregs, add the remaining herbs and beans; boil together until four sheng remain. Remove the dregs again, consume the beans, and drink the decoction, twice daily.
Lepidii Semen (Tinglizi) seven liang (roasted), Kansui Radix (Gansui) five liang, Poria (Fuling) and Zanthoxyli Fructus (Jiaomu) three liang each, Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu) two liang.
Pound the above into powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of a Chinese quince seed. Take five pills with warm water, three times daily. If ineffective, slightly increase the number of pills, stopping when diarrhea occurs as the limit.
Select three pi of old domestic silkworms, steam them with Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo) and eat them; this is extremely effective. However, those with weak constitutions should not take it.
Water distension (Shui Gu) refers to generalized edema where pressing leaves an indentation like mud. If not treated urgently, water accumulates in the limbs and cannot exit via the Bladder, turning into a fatal condition that is incurable. The prescription is:
Semen Kochiae (Qianniuzhong) and Kansui Radix (Gansui) two qian each, Cinnamomi Ramulus (Rougui) three fen, Plantaginis Semen (Cheqianzi) one liang.
Boil in water and take orally; after one dose, more than one sheng of fluid will be discharged, and after two doses, recovery is achieved. Do not administer a third dose under any circumstances. After recovery, tonify the Spleen with Ginseng (Renshen) and Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), and strictly avoid salt.
Qi distension (Qi Gu) is swelling caused by Qi deficiency, presenting similarly to water distension, but pressing the skin and flesh does not leave a mud-like indentation. It begins on the dorsum of the feet and gradually spreads to the upper body and face. The treatment method should focus on invigorating the Spleen and promoting Qi circulation, assisted by diuretic agents, which differs significantly from the treatment for water distension. The prescription is:
Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Coicis Semen (Yiren), and Poria (Fuling) one liang each; Ginseng (Renshen), Dioscoreae Rhizoma (Shanyao), Plantaginis Semen (Cheqianzi), Massa Medicata Fermentata (Shenqu), and Raphani Semen (Laifuzi) one qian each; Aurantii Fructus (Zhiqiao) five fen; Licorice Root (Gancao) and Cinnamomi Ramulus (Rougui) one fen each.
Boil in water and take orally, one dose daily. After ten doses, Qi will feel gradually relaxed; after thirty doses, full recovery occurs. Salt must also be avoided; this regimen must only be used after three months, otherwise, it is incurable.
The patient experiences slight lower abdominal pain, floating swelling of the limbs, a red complexion with blackish tints, robust appearance resembling insect erosion, and no slight swelling of the "sleeping silkworm" area under the eyes; these are the signs of this syndrome. Treatment should focus on eliminating parasites; once the parasites are gone, the distension will naturally subside. The prescription is:
Omphalia Lapponica (Leiyuan), Massa Medicata Fermentata (Shenqu), Poria (Fuling), and Alum (Baifan) three qian each; Plantaginis Semen (Cheqianzi) five qian; Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum (Biejia), and Vinegar-processed Dioscoreae Bulbilla (Dicai) one liang each.
One dose will expel countless parasites; after two doses, all parasites are expelled. After recovery, tonify the Spleen to prevent recurrence.
