This is a syndrome of the Jueyin Meridian (Jueyin Jing). The sinews and vessels traverse the genitalia and connect to the root of the tongue. When the Jueyin Meridian is affected by pathogenic factors, the sinews and vessels become stiff and tense; therefore, cases presenting with tongue retraction and testicular retraction are difficult to treat. Treatment should employ Danggui Sini Tang (Angelica Decoction for Cold Extremities) [See formula above; it shares the same base as Wuzhuyu Shengjiang Tang]. Wuzhuyu Shengjiang Tang (Evodia and Fresh Ginger Decoction) [Can be modified by adding ingredients from Danggui Sini Tang, named Danggui Sini Tang plus Evodia and Fresh Ginger Decoction].
Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) (2 liang), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (0.5 jin, sliced), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参).
Decoct these ingredients in water and take at any time without restriction.
[Plaster for Navel Application as Substitute for Moxibustion]
Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi, 附子), Kalanchoes Herba (Malanzi, 马兰子), Cnidii Fructus (Shechuangzi, 蛇床子), Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang, 木香), Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 肉桂), Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) (equal parts).
Grind the above six herbs into fine powder. Mix one spoonful of flour with one spoonful of herbal powder, or half a spoonful of each, using juice of Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) to form a paste. Spread onto paper, approximately three cun in diameter, and apply to the Guan Yuan (CV4) and Qi Hai (CV6) acupoints below the navel. From morning until evening, its thermal effect can substitute for one hundred moxibustion cones. It may also be applied for umbilical pain.

Chew before swallowing. If stool is hard, add Rhizoma Rhei Preparatum (Jiuwei Dahuang, 酒煨大黄) 1-2 qian to promote bowel movement. If swelling is severe, acupuncture is appropriate.
