Treats conditions of simultaneous deficiency of the Spleen and Lung, manifesting as fever, aversion to cold, emaciation and fatigue of the limbs, decreased appetite, and diarrhea. If various symptoms arise due to Qi and Blood deficiency, regardless of the specific disease name or pulse presentation, use the following prescription: Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Licorice Root), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix). The above twelve herbs, with three slices of fresh ginger and two dates, decocted in water and taken orally.
Ke Yunbo stated: In ancient times, Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) was used for Qi deficiency, Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) for Blood deficiency, and Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) for both Qi and Blood deficiency. Adding Huangqi (Astragali Radix) and Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) creates Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Ten Complete Great Tonifying Decoction). For treating thoughtfulness overtaxing the Spleen, or symptoms such as forgetfulness, palpitations,惊悸 (startle palpitations), night sweats, insomnia while awake; or pain in the Heart and Spleen regions, lethargy, poor appetite, and irregular menstruation, use Gui Pi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction): Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Longyanrou (Longan Aril), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix). Add three slices of fresh ginger, decoct in water, and take orally.
Luo Dongyi stated: In this formula, Longyanrou (Longan Aril), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) are used to tonify the Heart; Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), and Gancao (Licorice Root) are used to tonify the Spleen.
Zhang Luyu stated: Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) and Gui Pi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) both originate from the basis of Bao Yuan Tang (Preserve the Origin Decoction), adding Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma). However, the former focuses on raising Stomach Qi, while the latter focuses on nourishing Spleen Yin. For patients with decreased food intake, it is because the formula is purely Yin without Yang, failing to transform and transport the medicinal power!
This is the general formula for treating Qi deficiency and Blood weakness. It is most suitable for children with deficiency patterns in Jing Feng (Startle Wind) or Dou Zhen (Smallpox/Chickenpox). Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (3 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (2 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 qian), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) (2-3 fen in Spring/Summer, 6-7 fen in Autumn/Winter). The above four herbs, decocted in water and taken orally.
Ke Yunbo stated: "Bao Yuan" means preserving the original Qi. Qi is singular; it governs the Kidney as the congenital true Yuan Qi; it governs the Stomach as the acquired Qi... [Text fragment]. As appropriate for dryness, add Fuling (Poria) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma); for moistening, add Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix); for astringing, add Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba); for dispersing, add Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma). Furthermore, if there is exterior excess, remove Huangqi (Astragali Radix); if interior excess, remove Renshen (Ginseng Radix); if middle jiao fullness, avoid sweet herbs; if internal heat, remove Rougui (Cinnamon Bark). These points require careful understanding. (The deduction of modifications is clear.)
He also said: People know that Fire can overcome Metal, but do not know that Qi can overcome Fire; people know that Metal can generate Water, but do not know that Qi is essentially Water. This profound meaning was known only by Li Dongyuan... [Text cuts off].
