(Attached: Xue Lizhai's General Formula for Treating Ulcers)
It treats all kinds of sores and ulcers; if the pus has not yet formed, it dissipates them internally; if the pus has already formed, it promotes immediate ulceration. It is also a holy medicine for relieving pain and detoxifying.
Schinus molle (Chuan Shan Jia), Angelica dahurica (Bai Zhi), Saposhnikovia divaricata (Fang Feng), Gleditsia sinensis thorn (Zao Jiao Ci), Frankincense (Ru Xiang), Myrrh (Mo Yao), Cauda of Angelica sinensis (Dang Gui Wei), Red Peony Root (Chi Shao), Trichosanthes root (Hua Fen), Fritillaria (Bei Mu), Tangerine Peel (Chen Pi), Licorice Root (Gan Cao), Honeysuckle Flower (Jin Yin Hua).
The above thirteen ingredients are decocted in one bowl of wine until boiling several times, then taken orally.
Luo Dongyi said: This is the first formula for attacking toxins in the department of surgery. The Classics state: When Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) does not flow smoothly and reverses into the muscle tissue, carbuncles and sores arise from this cause. Therefore, it is necessary to assist with herbs to dredge the stagnation. Among them, Fritillaria, Trichanthes root, Honeysuckle flower, and Licorice root serve to resolve phlegm and relieve depression, and to scatter toxins and harmonize blood, thereby achieving the effect of softening hardness and relieving pain. This formula is designed for patients whose Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) is still strong and whose Middle Qi (Spleen/Stomach Qi) is not deficient. If the Spleen and Stomach have been weak since childhood, and Ying and Wei Qi are disharmonious, there is the method of Tuo Li Xiao Du San (Support Interior and Detoxify Powder). This discussion by Mr. Lizhai is an unchanging treatment principle for millennia. Therefore, I respectfully attach the methods of using formulas for treating ulcers as discussed by Mr. Lizhai below, so that...
Xue Lizhai said: In the treatment of ulcers, if the swelling is high and painful, first use Xian Fang Huo Ming Yin (Immortal Life Elixir) to resolve it, followed by Tuo Li Xiao Du San (Support Interior and Detoxify Powder); if the swelling is diffuse and slightly painful... due to deficiency of Yang Qi, coldness, and timidity, how could supplementation be inappropriate? Some suspect that Ren Shen (Ginseng) and Huang Qi (Astragalus) fill the middle jiao, and when used intermittently, dispersing and detoxifying herbs are added, such that the benefit does not compensate for the damage; or because of existing illness, they refuse to take tonics, leading to misdiagnosis. How tragic!
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Jin Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Ren Shen, Huang Qi, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, and Gan Cao are used to tonify Qi; Dang Gui, Chuan Xiong, and Shao Yao are used to nourish Blood; Jin Yin Hua, Bai Zhi, and Lian Qiao are used to detoxify.
Tuo Li San (Support Interior Powder) is the previous formula plus Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), removing Chuan Xiong, Gan Cao, Jin Yin Hua, Bai Zhi, and Lian Qiao.
Treats patients with dampness who feel restless and painful.
Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba, 3 liang), Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 2 liang), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata, 2 liang), Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 70 seeds), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 4 liang, stir-fried).
The above five ingredients are boiled in nine sheng of water. First boil Ma Huang until reduced by two sheng, skim off the foam, add the remaining herbs, and boil to obtain two and a half sheng. Strain and take eight ge warm, aiming for a slight sweating.
Cheng Fusheng said: This decoction is a surface-dispersing method for treating dampness. Body ache is due to dampness, restlessness is due to heat. Adding Bai Zhu to Ma Huang Tang (Ephedra Decoction) helps to dispel dampness...
