Treats the failure of Middle Qi to circulate, a sensation of emptiness and lack of solidity in the abdomen, loss of taste in the mouth, prolonged illness with inability to eat, disharmony of the Zang-Fu organs, as well as conditions where Cold pathogen directly invades the Taiyin channel (Taiyin Meridian Syndrome), presenting with spontaneous diarrhea without thirst.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma Praeparatum Cum Melle) (each 1.5 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally. Adding Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) changes the name to Fuzi Lizhong Tang (Aconite Decoction for Regulating the Middle).
Cheng Jiaoqian stated: The movement of Yang Qi begins with warmth. When warm Qi is liberated, the essence of grains is transported; when grain Qi ascends, Middle Qi is nourished. Hence it is named "Lizhong" (Regulating the Middle). It actually employs the function of harmonizing and regulating to bestow Yang Qi upon the Middle Jiao. If Stomach Yang is deficient, Middle Qi loses its control; the Danzhong (Sea of Qi) lacks the function of dispersing and descending; the Six Fu organs lack the function of distributing and arranging fluids. It is like a cooking pot without firewood. The Five Zang organs and Six Fu organs all rely on it to receive Qi. This is the purport of Lizhong Tang. If Water and Cold compete with each other, one should warm both the Spleen and Kidney. The addition of Fuzi benefits the Mingmen (Gate of Life), warming the Mother of Earth (Spleen).
Treats spontaneous sweating due to Yang deficiency, deep-seated and stubborn Cold-Dampness, and Yang deficiency with Yin excess.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1 liang) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (5 qian) are named Qifu Tang (Astragalus and Aconite Decoction).
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 liang) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (5 qian) are named Shufu Tang (Atractylodes and Aconite Decoction).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (1 liang) and Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (5 qian) are named Shenfu Tang (Ginseng and Aconite Decoction).
Decoct in water, divide into three doses.
Yu Jiayan stated: When the defensive Yang Qi outside the body is not secure, leading to spontaneous sweating, use Qifu Tang; when the Yang Qi within the Spleen is constrained and depressed, leading to spontaneous sweating, use Shufu Tang; [the text here is fragmented, implying treatment for] floating Yang from the Kidney... [treating] sudden internal collapse due to Yin excess.
During the late summer season, when Damp-Heat steams and blazes, causing fatigue and heaviness in the four limbs, reduced spirit, feverish sensation, rapid breathing (Qi Gao), vexation, yellow urine, thirst with spontaneous sweating, and a deficient pulse, this formula is used.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma Praeparatum Cum Melle), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma).
Wu Hegao stated: The Summer-Heat pathogen prevails in Summer, but by Late Summer, it combines with the Dampness pathogen. This formula treats both. Blazing heat causes the exterior Qi to easily leak; combined with Dampness, it affects the Middle Qi... [text fragment] ...When Jin-Ye (Body Fluids) are lost, thirst occurs; thus, Danggui and Gegen are used to generate Stomach fluids. When Clear Qi does not ascend, Shengma can lift it; when Turbid Qi does not descend, Er Pi (Two Peels, referring to Citrus peels like Qingpi and Chenpi) can regulate it. The use of Cangzhu is to address the Dampness of Late Summer.
Cheng Jiaoqian stated: People know only to clear Summer-Heat, but I also tonify Qi, because Summer-Heat injures Qi. Tonifying Qi is not merely about Metal overcoming Fire; whenever Qi rises upward, transforming into... [text cuts off]
