Commentary states: In cold damage diseases, yang qi is abundant and yin qi is scarce. When the disease originates in the yang meridians, it causes irritability (Fan Zao). The manifestations include feverish body and mental restlessness, thirst with a desire to drink fluids; if the stomach is dry, delirium (Chan Yu) will certainly occur. There are also cases of irritability originating from the Shaoyin meridian, which must be differentiated.
For treating wind-strike syndrome of the Taiyang meridian in cold damage, characterized by floating and tight pulse, fever, aversion to cold, body pain, absence of sweating, and irritability, Da Qing Long Tang (Great Blue Dragon Decoction) is the primary treatment. If the pulse is weak and faint, with sweating and aversion to wind, this formula should not be administered; doing so would lead to cold limbs (Jue Ni), twitching of sinews, and trembling of muscles, which constitutes an adverse reaction (Ni Zheng).
Da Qing Long Tang Formula:
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, root and nodes removed, 6 liang)
Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, outer bark removed)
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried and crushed, 2 liang each)
Xingren (Prunus armeniaca seed, skin and tip removed, double-kernel fried, 40 pieces)
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, size of a chicken egg, crushed)
The above five herbs are cut into pieces the size of hemp or beans. Each dose consists of 5 qian bi (approx. 15g), boiled with 1.5 sheng (approx. 300ml) of water, 5 slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and 2 fractured Dazao (Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus). Boil until reduced to 0.8 volume, strain, and take warm. If sweating is excessive, apply Wen Fen (warm powder) to the body. If sweating occurs after one dose, discontinue subsequent doses.
For treating cold damage where, after inducing sweating in a Taiyang disease, profuse sweating occurs, leading to stomach dryness, irritability, insomnia, and a desire to drink, give small amounts of water frequently to harmonize the stomach qi for recovery. If there is a floating pulse, difficulty in urination, slight fever, and polydipsia, Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) is indicated.
Formula:
Zhuling (Polypori Umbellati Sclerotium, black skin removed)

Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 1 liang 1 fen)
The above five herbs are pounded and sifted into a powder. Each dose is 2 qian bi, taken with rice water, three times daily. Drink plenty of warm water; recovery follows sweating.

[Note: Text implies Bai Hu Jia Ren Shen Tang context].
Cut the four herbs to the size of hemp seeds. Each dose is 5 qian bi, boiled with 1.5 sheng of water and one spoonful of Jingmi (Oryza sativa var. glutinosa). When the rice is cooked, strain and take warm. This may only be taken between Lixia (Start of Summer) and Liqiu (Start of Autumn). It is contraindicated after Liqiu, and during the first three months of the year when it is still cold; taking it then causes vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Patients with blood loss or deficiency constitution are also contraindicated; taking it causes abdominal pain. Diarrhea can be treated with warming methods for recovery.
