Commentary states: The Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian (Zu Taiyin Pi Jing) belongs to the Spleen and connects with the Stomach, ascends through the diaphragm, flanks the pharynx, and connects with the root of the tongue. The branch of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian (Zu Yangming Wei Jing) descends from the front of Daying (ST5) to Renying (ST9), following the throat. Thus, it is known that the larynx and pharynx are manifestations of the Spleen and Stomach. If wind-heat toxic pathogens invade the Spleen and Stomach, Qi rushes upward, affecting the meridians and collaterals, causing swelling and pain in the larynx and pharynx. In severe cases, even water and gruel cannot be swallowed, which can be fatal. Symptoms include alternating chills and fever, resembling Cold Damage (Shanghan). Urgent treatment is required.
