论曰头风白屑，不问冬夏，令人瘙痒，世呼为头风，此本于肺热也。肺为五脏之盖，
其气上冲头项，肺寒则脑液下而多鼻涕，肺热则熏蒸而多白屑。复以风热鼓作，故痒而喜搔。
治诸风及沐发未干，致头皮肿痒，多生白屑。防风荆芥散方
荆芥穗 莎草根（去毛各半斤） 甘草（炙锉三两半） 甘菊花（拣半两） 芎 白
芷羌
活（去芦头） 防风（去叉各三两）
上八味。捣罗为细末。炼蜜和匀，每一两分作三十饼，每服一饼细嚼，茶酒任下，不拘
时。

白龙脑（二两用鼎盛水五升，入龙脑并糯米五十粒，以锻石泥固济鼎口，交火煮半日候
冷取出研如粉） 真珠（二两先用大纸二张，以皂荚津渍过为，贴盛之又用帛裹定入粟糠五
斗
，安甑中蒸一昼夜后取，捻得破即研如粉，曝干） 雄黄（一两研如粉） 丹砂（二两形如
芙蓉
者研如粉，并雄黄粉同入银锅中用醋三升以文火煮一复时出之，却以温水淘去醋味曝干）
琥珀（二两拾得芥子者捣研如粉）
上五味。共九两和匀。内留三两，每夜临卧，漱口了揩齿咽津。余六两，再用白面四两
作饼子，纸二张裹煨熟，取出研细，与前药六两，炼蜜和捣，丸如梧桐子大。每日空心取两
丸含化咽津，后饮温酒三五合，若年四十以上。更加白龙骨一两研如粉，以水飞过曝干，帛
裹蒸一饭久，次入桑螵蛸一两，煨熟捣末，并前药末，同以炼蜜丸。

上三味熟研。内米泔中渍一宿，去滓木匕搅百遍，煎沸稍温沐头。良久别作皂荚汤濯之

大锅内，微火煎，候白芷黄色膏成，去滓贮入不津器中。先洗发令净候干，用药涂摩，明旦
取桑根白皮二两细锉，以水一斗五升，煮取一斗，放温洗发，每夜涂药一次。

上二十一味。除杏仁外，并细锉，以醋三升，都入瓷瓶内，浸一宿，取入大
铛。用生麻油一斗，与药，同以微火煎，候醋气尽膏成，去滓贮入不津器中。每日三度，匀
涂发根。
治头风白屑，瘙痒发落。蔓荆实膏方

上六味 咀。以绵裹用油二升，渍七日，每梳头用之。
Commentary states: Scalp wind with white dandruff, regardless of winter or summer, causes itching. The world calls this "scalp wind," which originates fundamentally from Lung heat. The Lung is the canopy of the five zang organs; its qi ascends to the head and neck. If the Lung is cold, brain fluid descends, resulting in excessive nasal discharge; if the Lung is hot, steaming heat produces abundant white dandruff. Furthermore, when wind-heat stirs and acts, itching occurs, leading to a desire to scratch. For treating various winds and scalp swelling, itching, and excessive white dandruff caused by washing hair without drying it, the Fangfeng Jingjie San (Windproof and Schizonepeta Powder) formula is prescribed.
Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike), Sucaogen (Cyperus Rhizome, de-haired) each 8 liang; Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted and chopped) 3.5 liang; Gan Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower, selected) 0.5 liang; Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome, de-rhizome head), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, de-twigs) each 3 liang.
The above eight herbs. Pound and sieve into fine powder. Mix evenly with refined honey. Each 1 liang of powder is made into thirty cakes. Take one cake per dose, chew thoroughly, and swallow with tea or wine as preferred, at any time.
For treating various winds causing white dandruff and darkening long hair, the Longnao Wan (Borneol Pill) formula is prescribed.
Bai Longnao (Borneol, 2 liang: place in a tripod vessel with 5 sheng of water, add Borneol and 50 grains of glutinous rice, seal the vessel mouth with Duan Shi mud, boil over fire for half a day, cool, remove, and grind into powder); Zhenzhu (Pearl, 2 liang: soak two large sheets of paper in Glycyrrhiza Uralensis juice, paste pearls on them, wrap in cloth, place in a steamer with 5 dou of millet chaff, steam for one day and night, remove, crush until breakable, grind into powder, and dry in sun); Xionghuang (Realgar, 1 liang, grind into powder); Dansha (Cinnabar, 2 liang, select those resembling hibiscus flowers, grind into powder, mix with Realgar powder, place in a silver pot with 3 sheng of vinegar, simmer on low heat for one shichen, remove, wash with warm water to remove vinegar taste, and dry in sun); Hupo (Amber, 2 liang, select seeds resembling mustard seeds, pound and grind into powder).
The above five herbs. Total 9 liang, mix evenly. Reserve 3 liang. Every night before sleep, rinse mouth, brush teeth, and swallow saliva. For the remaining 6 liang, mix with 4 liang of white flour to make cakes, wrap in two sheets of paper, bake/roast until cooked, remove, grind finely, mix with the previous 6 liang of herb powder, combine with refined honey, and pound into pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take two pills daily on an empty stomach, hold in mouth to dissolve and swallow saliva, then drink 3-5 he of warm wine. For those over forty years old, add 1 liang of Bailonggu (Fossilized Bone, processed with water and dried, wrapped in cloth and steamed for the duration of a meal), plus 1 liang of Sangpiaoxiao (Mantis Egg-case, roasted and ground), mix with previous powders, and pill with refined honey.
For treating scalp wind with white dandruff during hair washing, the Mazi Tang (Hemp Seed Decoction) formula is prescribed.
Damaizi (Hemp Seed), Qinjiao (Zanthoxylum Fruit) each 1 zhan; Zaojia Mo (Tamarindus Indica Pod Powder) 0.5 zhan.
The above three herbs. Grind thoroughly. Soak in rice washing water overnight. Remove dregs, stir 100 times with a wooden spoon, boil, let cool slightly, and use to wash hair. Afterward, rinse with Tamarindus Indica Pod decoction.
For treating scalp wind with white dandruff during hair washing, the Juhua Tang (Chrysanthemum Decoction) formula is prescribed.
Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower), Duohuo (Angelica Pubescens Root, de-rhizome head), Yinyu (Epimedium Herb), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root, de-twigs), Xixin (Asarum Root, de-leaves), Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper, de-seeds and closed mouths), Zaojia (Tamarindus Indica Pod), Duheng (Peucedanum Root), Mangcao (Polygonum Arvaticum Herb), Gui (Cinnamon Bark, de-bark) each 0.5 liang.
The above ten herbs. Grind into powder. Use 1 liang per dose to boil decoction for hair washing.
For treating scalp wind with white dandruff and darkening long hair, the Hanlian Gao (Eclipta Ointment) formula is prescribed.
Hanlianzicao (Eclipta Prostrata Herb, 10 jin: pound and squeeze to obtain 2 sheng of juice); Tongmu Baipi (Paulownia Bark, 4 liang); Songye (Pine Needle), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root), Xinyiren (Magnolia Flower Bud), Ben (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome - *Note: Text says 'Ben', likely referring to Chuanxiong or similar*), Chenxiang (Agarwood), Qinjiao (Gentiana Macrophylla Root), Shanglu (Phytolacca Root), Xijiaoxie (Rhinoceros Horn Shavings - *Historical term, now prohibited*), Qingzhupi (Green Bamboo Skin), Xixin (Asarum Root), Duoruo (Pollia Condensa Bulb), Mujingzi (Vitex Fruit), Linglingxiang (Costus Root) each 2 liang; Gangsong (Nardostachys Radix), Tianxiong (Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root - Processed), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome), Baimu Baipi (Cypress Bark), Fengxiangzhi (Frankincense Resin) each 1 liang; Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root Juice, 10 jin: pound and squeeze to obtain 5 sheng of juice); Wumayu (Sesame Oil, 4 sheng); Mazhi (Horse Fat, 1 sheng); Xiongzhi (Bear Fat, 2 sheng); Zhuzhi (Pig Fat, 1 sheng); Manjingzi You (Vitex Fruit Oil, 1 sheng); Zaogen Baipi (Jujube Root Bark, 3 liang).
The above thirty herbs. Excluding fats and oils, chop finely. Place Hanlianzicao and Shengdihuang juices in a porcelain jar, soak overnight. Remove and add fats/oils to a large pot. Simmer on low heat until Baizhi turns yellow and ointment forms. Remove dregs and store in a non-porous container. Wash hair clean first, let dry, apply ointment and massage. Next morning, take 2 liang of Sanggen Baipi (Mulch Root Bark), chop finely, boil in 15 sheng of water to obtain 10 sheng, let cool to warm temperature, and wash hair. Apply medicine once every night.
For treating scalp wind itching with white dandruff and darkening long hair, the Longnao Gao (Borneol Ointment) formula is prescribed.
Longnao (Borneol), Chenxiang (Agarwood), Baitanxiang (Sandalwood), Suhexiang (Styrax), Jishe Xiang (Cloves - *Note: Jishe Xiang usually refers to Clove, but historically sometimes distinct; here likely Clove*), Linglingxiang (Costus Root), Dingxiang (Clove), Gangsong (Nardostachys Radix), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root), Huoxiang (Patchouli Herb), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root), Baifuzi (Typhonium Rhizome), Xixin (Asarum Root), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root), Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), Tianxiong (Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root - Processed), Xinyi (Magnolia Flower Bud), Gan Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower), Wu Hui (Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root - Unprocessed/Finger-shaped), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Manjing Shi (Vitex Fruit), Xingren (Apricot Seed, soaked in water, skin and tip removed), Qinjiao (Zanthoxylum Fruit, de-seeds and closed mouths) each 1 liang; Wumayu (Sesame Oil, 5 jin).
The above twenty-four herbs. Excluding oil, chop finely. Wrap in new cotton, place in pot with oil, and simmer. When Baizhi turns yellow and ointment forms, remove dregs and store in porcelain jar. Take as needed and rub onto the vertex and hairline with hands.
For treating scalp wind itching with white dandruff and darkening long hair, the Songzhi Gao (Pine Resin Ointment) formula is prescribed.
Songzhi (Pine Resin), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root) each 4 liang; Tianxiong (Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root - Processed), Mangcao (Polygonum Arvaticum Herb), Zhizhu Hua (Rhododendron Molle Flower) each 1 liang; Qinjiao (Gentiana Macrophylla Root), Duohuo (Angelica Pubescens Root), Wutou (Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root - Roasted and Cracked), Xinyiren (Magnolia Flower Bud), Gangsong (Nardostachys Radix), Linglingxiang (Costus Root), Chenxiang (Agarwood), Niuxi (Achyranthes Root), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root) each 3 liang; Songye (Pine Needle), Xingren (Apricot Seed, soaked in water, skin and tip removed and ground), Huoxiangye (Patchouli Leaf), Sucaogen (Cyperus Rhizome), Gan Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower), Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper, de-seeds and closed mouths), Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome) each 2 liang.
The above twenty-one herbs. Excluding Xingren, chop finely. Place in a porcelain jar with 3 sheng of vinegar, soak overnight. Transfer to a large cauldron. Add 1 dou of raw Sesame Oil. Simmer on low heat until vinegar scent dissipates and ointment forms. Remove dregs and store in a non-porous container. Apply evenly to hair roots three times daily.
For treating scalp wind with white dandruff, itching, and hair loss. Formula: Manjing Shi Gao (Vitex Fruit Ointment).
Manjing Shi (Vitex Fruit) 0.5 sheng; Fuzi (Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root - Raw) 2 liang; Yang Zhizhu Hua (Rhododendron Molle Flower), Tingli (Descurainia Seed) each 2 liang; Linglingxiang (Costus Root) 1 liang; Hanlianzicao (Eclipta Prostrata Herb) one handful.
The above six herbs. Chop coarsely. Wrap in cotton, soak in 2 sheng of oil for seven days. Use after combing hair.
