The treatise states: The term "Blood Division" (Xuefen) refers to a condition where, during the flow of menstruation, cold-dampness pathogenic factors injure the Chong and Ren vessels, causing the menstrual flow to stop abruptly. Qi stagnation occurs, and fluid dampness overflows into the skin. Pathogenic factors contend with each other, causing the menstrual blood to separate and transform into water, resulting in edema; hence it is called "Blood Division." The *Mai Jing* (Pulse Classic) states: If menstruation ceases first, followed by the onset of water disease (edema), it is named Blood Division. If accumulated over a long period leading to severe edema, it becomes difficult to treat.
