Discussion states: The disease of Ji Lao (Acute Consumption) has symptoms similar to Re Lao (Heat Consumption), but the onset is more sudden. This is due to insufficient congenital endowment, combined with emotional worry and thinking leading to Qi stagnation, resulting in deficiency of both Ying (Nutritive Qi) and Wei (Defensive Qi). There is heat accumulation in the Heart and Lungs, where Metal (Lung) and Fire (Heart) mutually penalize each other, causing transmission and restriction among Zang organs, or it may be caused by external pathogenic factors. Consequently, symptoms such as irritability, body heat, flushed cheeks, palpitations, headache, night sweats, cough, dry throat, and soreness and pain in bone joints appear. Over time, the skin and muscles become emaciated and wasted, with expectoration of saliva or blood-streaked sputum; these are all signs of Ji Lao.
For treating Ji Lao characterized by vexing pain in the four limbs, heat in the palms and soles, aversion to cold, inability to eat, dry mouth, and mental restlessness, use the Tuire Tang (Fever-Reducing Decoction):
Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix, remove seedlings), Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba, dried), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried and crushed), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, baked), Long Dan (Gentianae Radix, remove seedlings), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix, remove heart and bake), each 1 liang.
Crush and sieve the above six ingredients coarsely. For each dose, take 5 qian bi (approx. 5-10g depending on measure), soak in 1.5 zhan of urine from a young boy, 3 cun of scallion white (Cong Bai), 3 stems of shallot white (Xie Bai), and 5 pieces each of peach branch heart (Tao Xin) and willow branch heart (Liu Xin) overnight. Decoct in the morning until 1 zhan remains, strain, and take on an empty stomach in one dose. Take again at night.
For treating Ji Lao characterized by muscle emaciation, high fever, palpitations with trembling, use the Bie Jia Yin (Turtle Shell Drink):
Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, remove skirt, vinegar-fried, 0.5 fen), Chi (Sojae Preparata, remove skin, 1 fen), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, amount based on patient's middle finger length), Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba, dried, one handful), Tao [branch/heart] (Peach part).
Finely cut the above six ingredients. For each dose, take 5 qian bi, decoct in 2 zhan of urine from a young boy until 1 zhan remains, strain, and take warm on an empty stomach. Avoid wind to induce sweating.
For treating Ji Lao characterized by heat accumulation in the Heart and Lungs, dry and scorched nose and mouth, loss of taste for food, drowsiness with mental confusion, chest and epigastric fullness, dry and gritty eyes, weakness in the four limbs, soreness and pain in the calves, and stiffness and cramping of the waist and legs, use the Qing Hao Jian Wan (Green Wormwood Decoction Pills):
Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix, fresh), Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) [extract juice, 1 sheng each], Tong Zi Xiao Bian (Urine of a Young Boy, 2.5 sheng), She Xiang (Moschus, 1 fen, ground), Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, remove skirt, vinegar-fried, 3 liang), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix, remove seedlings), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried and crushed, 2 liang each), Di Gu Pi (Lycii Cortex, 1 liang) [the above four made into powder], Tao Ren (Persicae Semen, remove skin and pointed ends, double-kernel ones, ground).
Take the juices of Qing Hao etc. and the urine, first decoct until thick. Add the powdered medicines, and simmer over moderate fire until pillable. Make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, washed down with Mai Men Dong Tang (Ophiopogon Decoction), at any time.
For treating Ji Lao characterized by irritability and high fever, weakness and soreness/pain in the four limbs, use the Qing Hao Yin (Green Wormwood Drink):

Cut the above six ingredients like hemp seeds. For each dose, take 3 qian bi, add 1 zhan of water and 1 Wu Mei (Mume Fructus), decoct until 0.8 zhan remains, strain, and take warm after meals and before bed.
For treating Ji Lao characterized by emaciation and deterioration, alternating chills and fever starting in the evening, palpitations and unrest, and constant feeling of thirst, use the Zhu Gan Wan (Pig Liver Pills):
Zhu Gan (Porcine Liver, 2 pieces, finely cut like willow leaves), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 15 liang, raw and ground to powder).
Layer the pig liver and Gan Cao powder in a pan, alternating layers until finished. Add 5 sheng of urine from a young boy, cook over moderate fire until the urine is exhausted. Grind finely, and have multiple people roll into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, washed down with rice drink on an empty stomach, gradually increasing to 30 pills.
For treating Ji Lao characterized by fever and emaciation, use the Tian Ling Gai Tang (Human Skull Cap Decoction):

For each dose, take 5 qian bi, soak in 1.5 zhan of urine from a young boy, 40 Chi Xin (Hearts of Sojae Preparata), 7 pieces each of Tao Li Xin (Hearts of Peach and Plum branches), and 2 stems each of Cong Bai (Scallion White) and Xie Bai (Shallot White), finely cut. Soak overnight, decoct in the morning until 1 zhan remains, strain, and take on an empty stomach in one dose. Mild diarrhea indicates efficacy.
