Discussion states: Feng Lao (Wind Asthenia) belongs to the category of Gan Lao (Liver Asthenia). The Liver governs Wind; Wind is characterized by its mobility and rapid changes, reaching everywhere. In individuals suffering from asthenia due to overwork, both Qi and Blood are deficient, making them susceptible to invasion by Wind pathogen. The pathogen may wander in the skin or stagnate deeply in the Zang-Fu organs. This disease causes numbness and paralysis of the limbs, spasticity and tightness of tendons and vessels, dizziness and blurred vision, irritability and frequent fright, a tendency to pick at seams of clothing (indicating mental aberration), talking and shouting wildly in sleep, withered nails, and darkened eyes. These constitute its clinical manifestations.
For treating Feng Lao where Wind attacks and flows into the four limbs, causing soreness and pain in the back and shoulder blades, deficiency-heat in the Upper Jiao, restlessness and oppression in the chest and heart, lack of luster in the face and body, fatigue and weakness, exhaustion of Yuan Qi and organ vitality, heaviness in the waist and legs, gradual emaciation, occasional attacks of cold Qi, and stabbing distension in the abdomen and hypochondrium, use Qiang Huo Tang (Notopterygium Decoction).
