论曰风胜则动，热胜则肿，目暴肿者，风热邪气，客于脏腑，盖五脏六腑之精气，皆上
注于目，既为风热邪气所客，气血不得宣通，使毒瓦斯冲发于目。是为暴肿。
治目暴肿生翳。前胡汤方
前胡（去芦头） 赤芍药 青葙子（各一两半） 山栀子仁 细辛（去苗叶） 车前子

两） 淡竹叶（洗） 朴硝（汤成下） 柴胡（去苗一两半） 甘草（微炙锉三分）
上一十味。除硝竹叶外，粗捣筛，每服四钱匕，水一盏半，竹叶五片，煎至八分，去滓
入硝一钱匕，放温食后临卧服。
治目暴赤肿，心躁风热壅。玄参汤方
玄参（一两） 菊花（三分） 防风（去叉一两） 羚羊角（镑三分） 蔓荆实（三分）
芍药（
三分） 马牙硝（汤成下） 黄芩（去黑心一两）
上八味。除硝外，粗捣筛，每服五钱匕，水一盏半，煎取七分，去滓入硝一钱匕，食后
临卧温服，如利即去硝。
治目暴赤，毒痛欲生翳。决明子汤方
决明子（一升） 石膏（研四两） 升麻（四两） 山栀子仁（肥者一升） 地肤子 茺
蔚子（
各一升） 苦竹叶（切二升） 干蓝叶（切一升） 芒硝（二两） 车前草汁（一升二合） 冬

上一十一味。以水二斗，煎竹叶取七升二合，去滓内诸药，煮取四升，分为四服。每服
相去，可两食间，再服为度，小儿减药，以意裁之。

上四味。锉如麻豆，以地骨皮汁一升半，更以蜜一升半，合煎取一升半，滤去滓洗之
治时行，目暴肿痒痛。地骨皮汤方
地骨皮（切三斤）
上一味。以水三斗，煮取三升，绞去滓，更内盐二两，煎取一升洗目，或加干姜一两。
治时行后，目暴肿。前胡汤方

治目暴肿。芦根汤方
芦根（五两） 甘草（炙一两） 粟米（三合） 甜竹茹（鸡子大）
上四味。锉如麻豆，每服五钱匕，水二盏，煎取一盏，去滓食后温服，日三。
治两目暴热痛。二黄汤方
大黄（锉炒四两） 芍药（五两） 细辛（去苗叶） 甘草（炙各四两） 黄芩（去黑
心二两）
上五味。锉如麻豆，每用五钱匕，水二盏，煎取一盏，去滓食后温服。日三。
治目热痛。大黄汤方
大黄（蒸过）
上一味，锉如麻豆，每用五钱匕，水二盏渍之一宿，明旦绞汁服之，以利为度。
治目暴肿疼痛。决明丸方
石决明（半两） 车前子 黄连（去须各二两）
上三味。捣罗为末，炼蜜丸如梧桐子大，每服十五丸，米饮下，食后，日二服。
Discourse states: When wind pathogen predominates, it causes movement; when heat pathogen predominates, it causes swelling. Sudden swelling of the eyes is caused by wind-heat pathogenic factors invading the Zang-Fu organs. Since the essence and Qi of the Five Zang and Six Fu organs all ascend to the eyes, once invaded by wind-heat pathogens, the Qi and Blood cannot circulate freely, causing toxic vapors to rush to the eyes. This results in sudden swelling.
Formula for treating sudden eye swelling with nebula (corneal opacity): Qianhu Tang (Peucedani Radix Decoction)
Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, remove rhizome head) 1.5 liang, Chishao Yao (Red Peony Root) 1.5 liang, Qingxiangzi (Celosiae Semen) each 1.5 liang, Shanzhizi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus Seed) 1 liang, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, remove seedlings and leaves) 1 liang, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) 1 liang, Danzhuye (Light Bamboo Leaf, washed), Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas, add when decoction is ready), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, remove seedlings) 1.5 liang, Gancao (Licorice Root, slightly roasted and chopped) 3 fen.
The above ten herbs. Except for Puxiao and Danzhuye, coarsely crush and sieve. Take 4 qianbi per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water and 5 pieces of bamboo leaf, decoct until 0.8 zhan remains, filter out dregs, add 1 qianbi of Puxiao, let cool to warm temperature, and take after meals before bedtime.
Formula for treating sudden redness and swelling of the eyes, with mental restlessness due to congestion of wind-heat: Xuanshen Tang (Scrophulariae Radix Decoction)
Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix) 1 liang, Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos) 3 fen, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, remove forks) 1 liang, Lingyangjiao (Saigae Tataricae Cornu, shaved) 3 fen, Manjingshi (Viticis Fructus) 3 fen, Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) 3 fen, Mayaxiao (Natrii Sulfas Crystallinus, add when decoction is ready), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, remove black heart) 1 liang.
The above eight herbs. Except for Mayaxiao, coarsely crush and sieve. Take 5 qianbi per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, decoct to obtain 0.7 zhan, filter out dregs, add 1 qianbi of Mayaxiao, take warm after meals before bedtime. If diarrhea occurs, remove Mayaxiao.
Formula for treating sudden redness of the eyes, toxic pain threatening to form nebula: Juemingzi Tang (Cassiae Semen Decoction)
Juemingzi (Cassiae Semen) 1 sheng, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, ground) 4 liang, Shengma ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma) 4 liang, Shanzhizi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus Seed, plump ones) 1 sheng, Difuzi (Kochiae Scopariae Herba) 1 sheng, Chongweizi (Viticipolygami Semen) 1 sheng, Kuzhuye (Bitter Bamboo Leaf, cut) 2 sheng, Ganlanye (Dried Isatidis Folium, cut) 1 sheng, Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) 2 liang, Cheqiancaozhi (Juice of Plantaginis Herba) 1 sheng 2 he, Dongguazi (Benincasae Semen, powdered) 3 sheng.
The above eleven herbs. Use 2 dou of water, decoct bamboo leaves to obtain 7 sheng 2 he, filter out dregs, add other herbs, boil to obtain 4 sheng, divide into four doses. The interval between each dose should be approximately the time between two meals. For children, reduce the dosage according to judgment.
Formula for treating sudden swelling and pain of the eyes: Zhuye Tang (Bamboo Leaf Decoction)
Kuzhuye (Bitter Bamboo Leaf, cut) 1 sheng, Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, remove seedlings) 2 liang, SheXian (Hydrangeae Japonicae Herba) 2 liang, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove mustache), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, ground), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, remove seedlings and leaves) each 1 liang.
The above six herbs. Chop like hemp seeds. Take 5 qianbi per dose, add 2 zhan of water, decoct to 1 zhan, filter out dregs, take warm after meals.
External wash formula for treating sudden swelling and pain of the eyes: Qinpi Eye Wash
Qinpi (Fraxini Cortex) 1 liang, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove mustache) 1 liang, Kuzhuye (Bitter Bamboo Leaf, cut) 1 sheng.
The above three herbs. Chop like hemp seeds. Use 3 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 0.8 he, filter out dregs to wash the eyes.
Formula for treating sudden swelling and pain of the eyes: Xixin Tang (Asari Radix Decoction)
Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, remove seedlings and leaves) 1 liang, Ruiren (Prunus Persica Seed) 1 liang, Rongyan (Halitum) 1 liang, Juemingzi (Cassiae Semen) 2 liang.
The above four herbs. Chop like hemp seeds. Use 1.5 sheng of Digupi juice (Root Bark of Lycii Cortex Juice), add 1.5 sheng of honey, decoct together to obtain 1.5 sheng, filter out dregs to wash.
Formula for treating sudden swelling, itching, and pain of the eyes during epidemic diseases: Digupi Tang (Lycii Cortex Decoction)
Digupi (Lycii Cortex, cut) 3 jin.
The above one herb. Use 3 dou of water, decoct to obtain 3 sheng, squeeze out dregs, add 2 liang of salt, decoct to obtain 1 sheng to wash the eyes. Alternatively, add 1 liang of Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma).
Formula for treating sudden swelling of the eyes after epidemic diseases: Qianhu Tang (Peucedani Radix Decoction)
Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, remove rhizome head) 3 liang, Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) 2 liang, Qingxiangzi (Celosiae Semen) 2 liang, Juemingzi (Cassiae Semen) 5 he, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, remove seedlings and leaves) 2 liang, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) 5 he, Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) 3 fruits, Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) 3 liang, Danzhuye (Light Bamboo Leaf, cut) 1 sheng.
The above nine herbs. Chop like hemp seeds. Use 5 qianbi per dose, add 2 zhan of water, decoct to obtain 1 zhan. Filter out dregs, take warm after meals, three times a day.
Formula for treating sudden swelling, itching, and pain of the eyes: Banxia Tang (Pinelliae Rhizoma Decoction)
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, washed seven times with hot water then dried) 5 liang, Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, remove rhizome head) 4 liang, Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, stir-fried) 2 liang, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, remove seedlings and leaves) 1 liang, Wumei (Mume Fructus) 7 fruits.
The above five herbs. Chop like hemp seeds. Use 5 qianbi per dose, add 2 zhan of water and 5 slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), decoct to obtain 1 zhan, filter out dregs, take warm after meals, three times a day.
Formula for treating sudden swelling of the eyes: Lugeng Tang (Phragmitis Rhizoma Decoction)
Lugeng (Phragmitis Rhizoma) 5 liang, Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted) 1 liang, Sumi (Pollen Oryzae Sativae) 3 he, Tianzhuru (Sweet Bamboo Sap, size of a chicken egg).
The above four herbs. Chop like hemp seeds. Take 5 qianbi per dose, add 2 zhan of water, decoct to obtain 1 zhan, filter out dregs, take warm after meals, three times a day.
Formula for treating sudden heat and pain in both eyes: Erhuang Tang (Two Yellows Decoction)
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, chopped and stir-fried) 4 liang, Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) 5 liang, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, remove seedlings and leaves) 4 liang, Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted) 4 liang, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, remove black heart) 2 liang.
The above five herbs. Chop like hemp seeds. Use 5 qianbi per dose, add 2 zhan of water, decoct to obtain 1 zhan, filter out dregs, take warm after meals, three times a day.
Formula for treating heat and pain of the eyes: Dahuang Tang (Rhei Radix Decoction)
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, steamed).
The above one herb, chop like hemp seeds. Use 5 qianbi per dose, soak in 2 zhan of water overnight, squeeze out juice the next morning and take orally. Stop when bowel movement is achieved.
Pill formula for treating sudden swelling and pain of the eyes: Jueming Wan (Cassiae Semen Pill)
Shijueming (Haliotidis Concha) 0.5 liang, Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen) 2 liang, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, remove mustache) 2 liang.
The above three herbs. Pound and sieve into powder, refine honey to make pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 15 pills per dose, swallow with rice drink, after meals, twice a day.
