Discussion states: In spring, one is injured by wind pathogen, and the pathogenic qi lingers. By summer, it manifests as dongxie (severe diarrhea with urgent, watery stools). If heat qi attacks this condition, blood follows the heat and infiltrates into the intestines. It then contends with the intestinal fluids, leading to accumulated heat and knotting. The blood transforms into pus, mixing with blood to form nongxueli (dysentery with pus and blood). In autumn and winter, if the spleen pulse is diagnosed as faint and choppy, it indicates this disease. If the pulse is slippery and large, or minute, deep, fine, deficient, and slow, these are favorable signs indicating survival. However, if the pulse is suspended and extreme, or solid and rapid, or rapid and large accompanied by body heat, these are unfavorable signs indicating death.
