It is stated that Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome with vomiting and diarrhea), vomiting, and hiccups are caused by the disharmony of yin and yang, cold and heat, the mutual interference of clear and turbid qi, and the disharmony of stomach qi. When wind-cold invades, it causes vomiting; if vomiting persists, it develops into hiccups. Ancient practitioners believed that vomiting and hiccups originate from the lower jiao (lower burner), which is correct. This condition is more severe than simple vomiting. Treatment should focus on descending qi to allow smooth communication between the upper and lower parts, ensuring unobstructed ascending and descending functions, so that the disease can be cured.
