After taking herbal decoctions for a cold injury (Shanghan), diarrhea persists, accompanied by fullness and hardness in the epigastrium. The Xie Xin Tang (Drain the Epigastrium Decoction) was administered. Subsequently, other purgative medicines were used, yet the diarrhea did not cease. The physician treated it with Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction), but the diarrhea worsened. Since Lizhong Tang treats disorders of the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner), and this diarrhea is located in the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner), the following formula should be used:
Yu Yu Liang (Magnetitum) and Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysitum Rubrum) (each 1 jin, crushed).
Take the above two ingredients, add six sheng of water, boil to obtain two sheng of liquid, and divide into three doses. If the diarrhea persists after administration, promote urination to stop the diarrhea.
Formula for treating pus and blood in stool after cold injury:
Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) (1 liang), Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex) (2 liang), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (4 liang), Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Semen) (14 seeds).
Take the above four ingredients, crush them, add six sheng of water, boil to obtain two sheng of liquid, remove the dregs, add Ejiao, and continue boiling until dissolved. Divide into three doses. (The formula in *Jia Yi Jing* does not contain Huang Bo, but contains Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix)).
Formula for treating dysentery with red and white pus and blood; if children contract this disease, they often die within three days, indicating the presence of parasites in the lower part:
She Xiang (Moschus), Fan Shi (Alumen), Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Zhen Zhu (Margarita), Xiong Huang (Realgar) (equal parts).
Process and mix the above six ingredients. Take a mulberry branch about three cun long like an arrow shaft, wrap two cun of its head with cotton, moisten the cotton tip with saliva, apply the medicine onto the cotton, and insert it into the anus. Leave it for half a day, then replace it. Apply twice daily; this yields miraculous results.
Formula for difficult cases of cold injury lasting six or seven days, where severe purging has led to a deep and slow pulse, cold limbs, absent pulse at the lower extremities, throat obstruction, spitting of pus and blood, and persistent diarrhea:
Ma Huang (Ephedrae Herba), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Wei Rui (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma, also referred to as Chang Pu/Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma here), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (each 3 liang), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Fu Ling (Poria), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix).
(each 2 liang; *Shang Han Lun* writes Tian Men Dong (Asparagi Radix)).
Take the above fourteen ingredients, crush them, add one dou of water, first boil Ma Huang until reduced by two sheng, remove the foam on the surface, add the remaining herbs, and boil to obtain three sheng of liquid. Take one sheng per dose; recovery occurs with mild sweating.
Formula for treating warm toxin (Wendu) and cold injury with internal deficiency and external heat attacking the stomach, discharging yellow-red fluid and rotten meat-like bloody discharge, latent qi abdominal pain, and various heat toxins:
Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus) (20 fruits), Chi (Sojae Semen Preparatum) (1 sheng), Xie Bai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus) (one handful).
Take the above three ingredients, add four sheng of water, first boil Zhi Zi and Xie Bai until cooked, then add Chi, boil to obtain two and a half sheng of liquid, divide into three doses, and take frequently until cured.
Formula for treating post-illness edema due to deficiency:
Chi (Sojae Semen Preparatum) (5 sheng), Chun Jiu (Pure Wine) (1 dou).
Boil the above two ingredients for three boils, drink while hot in one go. For those who cannot tolerate alcohol, cover with blankets to induce sweating according to tolerance.
Formula for treating incessant sweating:
Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) (3 jin), sliced, boiled in one dou of water to obtain three sheng of liquid, divided into three doses.
Another formula: Drink tea made from Bai Zhu Ye (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Folium).
Yet another formula: Take one fang cun bi (a square-inch measure) of Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), taken with water.
Formula for treating sudden onset of incessant sweating:
Take cattle or sheep fat with warm wine to cure. (Another version says taking cattle or sheep feces also stops it.)

Sweat-stopping formula:
Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Mu Li (Ostreae Concha) (equal parts).
Process the above two ingredients, grind into powder, and sieve. Before bedtime, take five qian bi with water.
