(One treatise, thirty-eight prescriptions, two moxibustion methods)
The treatise states: Gingival recession and exposure are mostly caused by gan disease (pediatric malnutrition syndrome with oral manifestations) and moon erosion sores. Apply hornwort ash to the intergingival space at night until it is full. Avoid consuming oily foods. The condition will heal within two or three nights. Consuming oil and dried dates will cause a relapse. Therefore, patients with dental diseases should avoid oil, dried dates, and cinnamon heart. Every morning, take a pinch of salt, place it in the mouth, rinse with warm water, brush the teeth, and perform one hundred clicks of the teeth. If this practice is continued without interruption, the teeth and gums will become firm and tight within five days. Anyone whose gingival recession prevents them from eating fruits and vegetables does so because the tooth roots are exposed. This method of rinsing teeth with salt water and clicking the teeth is effective in all cases; it is miraculous and excellent. People prone to dental diseases often suffer from them due to eating and drinking during lunar eclipses. Those with insight should be extremely cautious about this. Specifically, diet should be avoided before the sun and moon reach their fullest point; this applies to children as well.
Prescription for Treating Dental Caries and Worm Pain:
Bai Fu Zi (Typhonii Rhizoma), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) [each 6 zhu]; Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gao Liang Jiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma) [each 12 zhu].
Grind the above five herbs into powder. Wrap a small amount in cotton and apply it to the affected tooth. Spit out any juice that flows out. Use twice a day. It can also treat halitosis.
Another Prescription:
Cut the hoof of a white horse into pieces the size of rice grains. Wrap in cotton and insert into the cavity of the painful area. No more than three applications are needed.
Prescription for Chronic Dental Caries Caused by Worms, Effective from Youth to Old Age:
Que Mai Cao (Setariae Viridis Herba), also known as Du Lao Cao, resembles cow hair grass. Wash forty leaves of bitter gourd (Ku Hu Ye). Leave them exposed overnight. At dawn, take the grass, bend it to a length of two cun, width of one cun, and thickness of five fen. Wrap it in gourd leaves to make fifty to sixty bundles. Soak these bundles in three-year-old strong vinegar. At noon, take two bundles, roast them in fire until extremely hot, and apply them to the outside of the teeth in the mouth. Replace when cool. Use a copper vessel filled with water to wash the bundles after unwrapping. Long worms measuring three fen can be extracted; older ones are yellow-red, smaller ones are white. One may extract thirty to forty worms if numerous, or ten to twenty if few.
Prescription for Treating Worm Teeth:
Liang Dan Zi (Daturae Semen) 3 he. If unavailable, Cong Zi (Allii Fistulosi Semen) or Jiu Zi (Allii Tuberosi Semen) can be used. Take seven green coins, heat them until red-hot. Take a small-mouthed jar suitable for holding in the mouth. Place the coins inside the jar. Put a pinch of Liang Dan Zi on the coins. Allow it to crackle ("pao pao" sound). Pour approximately half a he of water over it to generate steam. Hold the mouth over the jar opening to inhale the steam, preventing gas escape. Fumigate the teeth. Repeat when cool. Use three he of medicine as a dose. This not only cures worm teeth but also treats wind teeth, dental caries, and other dental diseases. Saliva production increases; spit it out.
Another Prescription:
Cut Bai Yang Ye (Populus Euphratica Leaf) 1 sheng. Add 3 sheng of water. Boil down to 1 sheng. Rinse with the liquid.
Another Prescription:
Boil 1 sheng of Bai Pi of Gou Qi Gen (Lycii Cortex) in 1 sheng of strong vinegar. Take 0.5 sheng and rinse. The worms will emerge immediately.
Another Prescription:
Take a small amount of Tao Ren (Persicae Semen). Pierce it with the tip of a hairpin and burn it over a lamp. When smoke appears, blow it out after a short time. Place it in the mouth and bite it against the affected tooth. No more than five or six applications. (Another version uses Hu Tao Ren [Juglandis Semen].)
Prescription for Treating Gan Worms Eroding Tooth Roots:
Place Di Long (Pheretima) on a stone. Add a pinch of salt. It will turn into water after a moment. Absorb this liquid with flour. Wait for it to thicken and coagulate. Apply to the diseased area. Then smear with去皮皂荚 (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus without skin). The worms will come out.
Another Prescription:
Grind the residue of pure hemp seed candles. Apply with Jing Hua Shui (well water drawn at dawn).
