According to the *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Manifestations of All Diseases), regarding Tianxing Yin-Yang Yi Disease: The so-called Tianxing Yin-Yang Yi disease refers to a condition contracted by men or women after recovering from Tianxing disease (infectious febrile diseases) but before their bodies have fully recovered, due to sexual intercourse. This is called "Yin-Yang Yi" (Exchange of Yin and Yang). If a man contracts the disease through intercourse with a woman while his illness has just healed but he has not yet recovered, it is called "Yang Yi"; if a woman contracts the disease through intercourse with a man while her illness has just healed but she has not yet recovered, it is called "Yin Yi". If two men or two women interact, they do not transmit the disease to each other. It is called "Yi" (Exchange) because the Qi of Yin and Yang mutually influence each other, and the pathogenic toxin transfers and attaches to the person, similar to a replacement or exchange. The symptoms include: heat rushing up to the chest, heaviness in the head making it difficult to lift, excessive eye discharge, spasticity and tightness in the four limbs, severe colic in the lower abdomen, and curling of the hands and feet. In such cases, death may occur immediately. There are also cases where death does not occur immediately; the patient suffers from urgency and tightness inside the lower abdomen, heat rushing up to the chest, heaviness in the head making them unwilling to lift it, a sensation of joints separating, slack and weak meridians, deficiency of blood and Qi, exhaustion of bone marrow, short and shallow breathing, decreasing physical strength, inability to move while lying in bed, requiring others to assist when getting up or walking, and some may die after a year or more. (From Volume 9)
The *Shen Shi Fang* (Deep Master's Formulas) treats men who have contracted the "Yin Yi" disease from women. If caused by sexual activity or other forms of deficiency-labor, presenting with hardness and severe colic in the lower abdomen, retraction of the genitals, and critical condition nearing death, one can apply moxibustion to the glans penis for one hundred burns (zhuang) to see improvement, up to three hundred burns for complete recovery. The effect is excellent, and it does not affect future fertility. (The *Fan Wang Fang* agrees, with no contraindications.)
Another formula for treating Yin-Yang Yi disease:
Take two pig testicles, warm them, and swallow them with wine. The disease will then heal. (From Volume 14)
Regarding the discussion in the *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* on women with prior deficiency of Ying and Wei: Women whose Ying and Wei Qi were previously deficient, having been struck by pathogenic heat, and after undergoing sweating, vomiting, or purging therapies, suffer damage to the meridians. The Yin and Yang Qi become exhausted. Although the pathogenic factors have dispersed, the True Qi remains scarce, the five Zang organs are still deficient, the function of digestion and transformation (Gu Shen) has not recovered, there is a lack of body fluids to nourish the body, leading to emaciation and the generation of various diseases. (From Volume 9)
Cui Shi treats irritability and unquenchable thirst accompanied by aversion to cold and intense heat using the Zhuye Tang (Bamboo Leaf Decoction), which is commonly effective. This formula is not only used for Tianxing disease but is also an excellent prescription for chronic deficiency and emaciation, as well as for phlegm-heat in the chest following malaria.
Gancao (Licorice Root, 2 liang, honey-fried)
Zao (Jujube, 15 pieces, split)
Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 1 liang, washed)
Shaoyao (Peony Root, 3 liang)
Qianhu (Peucedanum Root, 1 liang)
Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 1 liang)
Xiaomai (Wheat, 5 he)
Renshen (Ginseng Root, 2 liang)
Jingmi (Rice Grain, 1 sheng)
Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome, 2 liang)
Mendong (Ophiopogon Tuber, 4 he, heart removed)
Gualou (Trichosanthes Fruit, 1 liang)
Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, appropriate amount)
Cut the above fourteen ingredients, add water from a bamboo vessel totaling 1 dou 5 sheng, decoct until 5 sheng remain, and divide into three doses. If it is not Tianxing disease but rather chronic deficiency and emaciation with phlegm-heat in the chest, this formula can also be used. In this case, add Huangbo (Phellodendron Bark, 2 liang), remove Huangqin, reduce Zhimu by 1 liang, and remove Gualou. Using this modified formula yields significant effects. Avoid mutton, seaweed, Chinese cabbage, and maltose syrup. (From Volume 1, note: "Zhu " refers to small bamboo, i.e., arrow bamboo.)
The *Qian Jin Fang* (Thousand Gold Formulas) is used for tonifying deficiency. After major illnesses, when vitality is insufficient, and for all types of deficiency-labor, this formula can be referenced.
Take one sheng of milk from a newborn yellow cow aged between five and seven years old. Add four sheng of water, decoct until one sheng remains. Administer slowly in small amounts, like feeding an infant. Do not consume too much at once. Take continuously for ten days for best results. (From Volume 10)
