The onset of Spleen Abscess (Pi Yong) must first manifest as persistent dull pain at Zhangmen (LR13) acupoint. (This acupoint is located below the nipple at the end of the right hypochondrium; the treatment method is the same as for internal abscesses and intestinal abscesses.)
The onset of Liver Abscess (Gan Yong) must first manifest as persistent dull pain at Qimen (LR14) acupoint. (This acupoint is located between the second intercostal space directly below the nipple, 1.5 cun lateral to the midline.) It causes distension in both hypochondria, fright during sleep, and difficulty urinating. This is caused by qi rebellion due to frustration and depression. Initially, Gualou Powder or Chaihu Qinggan Decoction should be used for regulation. After ulceration, Liuwei Wan and Bazhen Tang should be used to nourish yin and support the interior to expel toxins. This indicates excessive fire in the Liver and Heart with deficiency-heat within. Warm-tonifying medicines, as well as acupuncture and moxibustion methods, are contraindicated.
