Yang resides on the exterior, while Yin resides in the interior. This state is neither purely Yin at the lower part nor purely Yang at the upper part. It is necessary to maintain a balance and smooth flow of Yin and Yang. When Yin and Yang are balanced and flowing smoothly, (Qi and Blood) will become abundant and overflow. Alternatively, during periods of strong Yang energy, the medicinal properties of mineral stones (Shishi, 乳石) may also be activated. Originally, Yang Qi tends to float and ascend; the power of stone medicines further harbors Yang Qi. The pathogenic Yang and the ruling Yang combine and jointly steam the Liver and Lungs. Consequently, patients suffer from thirst.
For treating symptoms caused by the activation of Shishi: high fever, headache, vexation and thirst, stiffness and tension in the back and shoulders, and loss of appetite. It is suitable to take Maidong San (Ophiopogon Powder).
Herbs: Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 1 liang, heart removed), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 3 fen), Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma, 1 liang, sliced), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, 3 fen), Xijiaoxie (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 3 fen).

Add 1 zhong of water, 0.5 fen of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, Fresh Ginger), and 14 slices of Zhuye (Bambusae Folium, Bamboo Leaf). Decoct until reduced to 6/10 of the original volume, then strain off the dregs.
