Baihe disease (Lily Disease) occurs because the meridians and all vessels share a common origin, causing pathogenic factors to affect the entire system of vessels. This condition typically arises after a severe Shanghan (Cold Damage) illness, where the body fails to fully recover, leading to this specific pathology.
For treating Baihe disease caused by Shanghan, characterized by slight fever, aversion to cold, restlessness, and panting, the Baihe San (Lily Powder) formula is indicated.
Ingredients: Baihe (Lilii Bulbus, 2 liang), Ziwan (Asteris Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, roots and nodes removed), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 1 liang, soaked in hot water, skin and tips removed, double kernels avoided, bran-fried until slightly yellow), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix, 1 liang, rhizome head removed), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 1 liang, heart removed), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 fen, honey-fried until slightly red and crushed).
Preparation and Administration: Crush the above ingredients into a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, add 1 da zhen (approx. 200ml) of water, decoct until 5 fen remains, remove dregs, and take warm at any time.
For treating Shanghan where headache is absent but vertigo is felt, accompanied by shivering chills, this indicates a Baihe syndrome. The Chi Fuling San (Red Poria Powder) formula is indicated.
