The throat and pharynx are the pathways through which Qi circulates and the routes for respiration. If wind-pathogenic factors and heat-pathogenic factors contend with each other and attack the Spleen and Lung, the meridians and collaterals will become obstructed, stagnant, and unsmooth. When pathogenic heat attacks the throat, causing toxic qi to knot and block, resulting in severe pain and an inability to swallow liquids or food, it is appropriate to administer the Xijiao San (Rhinoceros Horn Powder) prescription.
Rhino Horn Shavings (1 liang), Chenxiang (Agarwood, 1 liang), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 0.5 liang), Mayaning (Sodium Sulfate, 1 liang), Jishe Xiang (Caryophylli Flos, 1 liang), Xunlu Xiang (Olibanum, 0.5 liang).
