The lung organ of infants is obstructed with qi stagnation, and accumulated heat resides internally. When this heat attacks upward to the brain, it causes brain heat. Furthermore, lung qi connects to the nasal cavity and governs the secretion of nasal mucus. If there is heat in the zang organs, symptoms such as brain heat without nasal discharge, dry mouth, mental restlessness, and disturbed sleep may occur. It is appropriate to administer Mutong San (Cinnamon Twig and Akebia Powder).
Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, sliced) Chuan Shengma (Bupleuri Radix et Rhizoma) Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, half tael, heart removed, dried) Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved) Xingren (Prunus Armeniaca Seed, soaked in water, skin and tip removed, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow).
The above ingredients are coarsely pounded and sifted into a powder. Take one qian per dose, add one small cup of water, decoct until reduced to half a cup, remove the dregs, and take at any time, adjusting the dosage according to the child's age.
For treating infantile heart and lung excess heat, manifesting as dry brain without nasal discharge and occasional irritability, Niuhuang San (Calculus Bovis Powder) is indicated.
Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, one fen, finely ground) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, half tael, mustards removed) Chifuling (Poria Cocos with Red Bark, half tael) Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved, half tael) Qianshuang (Plumbum Superficies, half tael, finely ground)... [Text fragment: Maidong...] ... Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted...).
The above ingredients are finely pounded and sifted into a powder. Mix in the already ground medicines and grind uniformly. Take half a qian per dose mixed with warm honey water at any time, adjusting the dosage according to the child's size.
For treating infantile lung obstruction, brain heat, dry nose without nasal discharge, constipation and sluggishness of the large intestine, and mental restlessness during sleep, Tiandong San (Asparagi Radix Powder) is indicated.
Tiandong (Asparagi Radix, half tael, heart removed, dried) Sangbaipipi (Mori Cortex, sliced) Chuan Shengma (Bupleuri Radix et Rhizoma) Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus, stir-fried until slightly yellow, pith removed) Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted until slightly red, sliced).
[Text fragment regarding preparation] The above ingredients are coarsely pounded and sifted into a powder. Take one qian per dose, add one small cup of water, decoct until reduced to half a cup, remove the dregs, and take at any time, adjusting the dosage according to the child's age.
For treating infantile heart and lung excess heat, manifesting as dry nose without nasal discharge, unfavorable throat condition, and reduced desire for milk and food, Shegan San (Belamcandae Rhizoma Powder) is indicated.
Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma, half tael) Chuan Shengma (Bupleuri Radix et Rhizoma, half tael) Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, half tael, heart removed, dried) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, mustards removed) Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved) Zixin (Scutellariae Radix) Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted).
