Epistaxis (nosebleed) occurring in the context of seasonal pathogens is caused by the accumulation of heat in the five zang organs. The Heart governs blood. When pathogenic heat invades the Hand-Shaoyin (Heart) meridian and lodges in the collaterals of the Foot-Yangming (Stomach) meridian, epistaxis occurs. "Nu" refers to bleeding from the nose.
For treating epistaxis due to seasonal pathogens, accompanied by incessant restlessness, headache, and rebellious qi, the Shigao Yinzi (Gypsum Decoction) is indicated.
Ingredients: Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 2 liang, crushed), Gancao (Licorice Root, 0.5 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and cut), Chishao Yao (Red Peony Root, 1 liang), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 1 liang), Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root, 1 liang, with sprouts removed), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig, 0.5 liang), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia Root, 3 liang), Zhu Ru (Bamboo Shavings, 2 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Finely cut and mix the above ingredients evenly. Take 0.5 liang per dose. First, soak 2 liang of Fulonggan (Hearth Earth) in 1.5 large bowls of water, clarify, and take 1 large bowl of the clear liquid. Decoct until one-fifth remains, strain, and take warm at any time.

Ingredients: Hufen (Lead Carbonate, fried until black and fine, ground), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger, processed until cracked, pounded into powder), Luang Fa Hui (Ash of Tangled Hair, finely ground), Fudi Mo (Soot from the Cauldron Bottom, finely ground), Fulonggan (Hearth Earth, finely ground).
Preparation and Administration: Any one of the above ingredients may be used. Blow it into the nasal cavity to stop bleeding. If each ingredient is blown in an amount equivalent to a soybean, the effect is even better.

Ingredients: Wuzhou Yu Gu (Cuttlefish Bone, 2 liang), Ciji (Acanthopanacis Tricnophylli Radix, 2 liang), Puhuang (Pollen Typhae, 2 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Pound the above ingredients finely and sieve them into a powder. Take 2 qian per dose at any time, mixed with cold rice decoction. Administer frequently until symptoms cease.
For cases of epistaxis due to seasonal pathogens where other medicines have been ineffective, this formula is suitable.
Ingredients: Baima Tong (White Horse Dung, 7 pieces, squeezed to obtain thick juice), Ejiao (Donkey-Hide Glue, 0.5 liang, crushed and fried until yellow and dry, then powdered).
Preparation and Administration: Mix the above ingredients thoroughly and stir well. Drip into the nasal cavity. Simultaneously, soak the feet slightly in fresh well water; the bleeding will stop.
