Treats throat bi (obstruction and swelling of the throat) causing severe swelling and blockage, intense pain preventing food and fluid intake, and the onset of various toxins.
*Belamcanda chinensis* Rhizome (Shéyè), *Angelica dahurica* Root (Báizhǐ), *Angelica sinensis* Radix (Dāngguī) (sliced and roasted, each 1 liang), *Prunus armeniaca* Seed (Xìngrén) (soaked in hot water, skin and tips removed, stir-fried), *Cimicifuga foetida* Rhizome (Shēngmá), *Rhinocerotis Cornu* (Xījiǎo) (shaved into thin slices).
*Glycyrrhiza uralensis* Root (Gāncǎo) (honey-fried, each 0.5 liang).
The above herbs are coarsely crushed. For each dose, take three qianbi (approx. 3-5 grams), add one zhan (approx. 200ml) of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take warm at any time. Take three times daily. Avoid eating *Alaria esculenta* (Hǎizǎo) and *Brassica rapa* var. *pekinensis* (Sōngcài).
Treats acute throat bi (acute pharyngeal obstruction), chán hóu fēng (wind-wrapping throat condition characterized by circumferential swelling), fēiyáng hóu (sudden swelling of the throat), dān é and shuāng é (unilateral and bilateral peritonsillar abscesses), jié hóu (lump in the throat), chóng shé (double tongue/swelling of sublingual tissue), mù shé (wooden tongue/stiff swollen tongue), swelling and pain in the cheeks and jaw, where previous medications have failed and even water cannot be swallowed.
*Sulfur* (Liúhuáng) (ground), *Ligusticum chuanxiong* Rhizome (Chuānxiōng), *Aconitum carmichaelii* Lateral Root (Chuānwū) (processed), *Mentha haplocalyx* Herb (Bòhè Yè), *Natrii Sulfas* (Xiāoshí) (ground), Winter Tea (Làchá), *Rehmannia glutinosa* Root (Shēngdìhuáng) (equal parts).
Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Knead with fresh green onion juice to form lozenges (dìng). Before each dose, rinse the mouth thoroughly with fresh cold water and spit it out. Chew five to seven fresh leaves of *Mentha haplocalyx* until slightly broken, then chew one lozenge together with the mint leaves until extremely mushy. Swallow with well water. For severe cases, continue administration for three doses until cured. For double tongue or cheek swelling, administer one lozenge first, then apply another lozenge directly to the affected area to reduce swelling. For heat stroke with latent heat causing unconsciousness, dissolve one lozenge in fresh mint water and administer orally; the patient will regain consciousness. Carry a lozenge in the mouth while traveling to prevent heat stroke. For sores on the mouth and tongue preventing closure, or discomfort after consuming hot-natured foods, follow the above method: after taking the medicine, rinse the mouth with water, chew ten mint leaves into a paste and spit them out, then swallow one lozenge with water, holding it in the mouth to accumulate saliva around it. When the saliva is full, spit it out. After taking three such lozenges, alcohol and vinegar can be consumed normally. If blisters form in the throat after consuming salty, sour, fried, or roasted foods, puncture the blisters to induce bleeding, place several mint leaves on the wound, chew one lozenge with the leaves, and swallow with well water. For sha lin and rè lín (sand-type and heat-type strangury with hematuria), use seven leaves of *Plantago asiatica* Herb (Chēqián Cǎo) and a small piece of *Zingiber officinale* Rhizome (Shēngjiāng), grind them into a paste, mix with water, strain, chew one lozenge, and swallow with water. This formula functions to differentiate yin and yang, dispel wind-heat, transform blood stasis into saliva, and transform saliva into fluids. Keep it handy for emergencies. One lozenge treats one adult; children should take half a lozenge. An alternative prescription removes Chuānwū and adds *Cyathula officinalis* Root (Guànzhòng), using fresh tea instead of winter tea.
