Chen's *Experience Formula* states: Zhou Duanren, Langzhong from Wuxing, when going to the provincial examination, instructed a neighbor saying: "I am originally from a medical family; for all women's diseases, simply using Siwu Tang added with Corni Fructus is invariably effective." For difficult labor and retained placenta, fetus dead in the womb, add wine and decoct together; it is always effective when used this way, I谨 offer this as repayment. It is unknown which person originated this formula; some say it started with Hua Tuo of Wei. Hua Tuo's skills were profound and subtle, his formulas were simple and concise, passed down in reputation; his acupuncture points were few. The *Qianjin Fang* states: Since the Three Dynasties, medical formulas and pharmacological theories have not been as detailed and complete as this; among them are various formulas from famous doctors of Han and Jin dynasties. The current *Chanbao Fang* was compiled by Zan Ying, Patrol Officer of Liangzhou, during the late Liang period; it contains Siwu San. Later it was incorporated into the *Shenghui Fang*, after which physicians changed the powder form to decoction. Those who master its use are like riding a fine horse, able to go wherever they wish according to their needs. Physicians named 'Medical Masters' add or subtract ingredients within Siwu Tang, adapting to deficiency/excess and cold/heat, grasping the essence; however, it is not only applicable to women's diseases.
