[Song] When the Yuan Shen (Original Spirit) is deficient and invaded by pathogens, demonic intercourse cannot be controlled; with trance, coma, and disordered speech, one must regulate the Liver, nourish Blood, and clear the Heart.
[Discussion] Humans are born from the refined Qi of the Five Elements and nourished by the Shen (Spirits) of the Five Zang organs. If regulation is improper, leading to decline in Qi and Blood, or if excessive thinking causes the Shen to lose its residence, pathogens will enter through the deficiency.
The symptoms include a desire for isolation and avoidance of people, occasional solitary laughter or weeping, while the facial complexion remains unchanged.
[Pulse] The pulse may be deep, slow, and hidden, or rapid like a bird pecking, or continuous yet rhythmless, or fluctuating between large and small, short and long; all these are pathological pulses indicating pathogens.

[Song] Pi (masses), Ju (gatherings), Jia (lumps), Pi (stagnation), and Shan (hernias) arise from blood stasis, phlegm obstruction, Qi stagnation, and food retention. The *Nan Jing* states that the Five Accumulations originate from the Five Zang organs, while the Six Gatherings are transmitted from the Six Fu organs. Changqin (Intestinal Wart) is a Qi-level disorder occurring during menstruation, whereas Shijia (Stone Leiomyoma) involves blood stasis accompanying amenorrhea. Treatments may include Qinghao (Artemisia annua), Huangbai (Phellodendron), Zaoye (Smilax glabra rhizome), Xueyuzhu (Burnt human hair), Huliwei (Fox tail), and Biejia (Turtle shell). "Lice eruption," "Snake," and "Fish" are also names for Jia disorders.
[Discussion] The Classics state: Changqin occurs when cold pathogenic factors lodge outside the intestines and contend with Wei Qi (Defensive Qi). Qi fails to circulate properly, attaching internally, causing accumulation and arising evil Qi, leading to the growth of polyps. Initially the size of a chicken egg, it gradually enlarges until it resembles pregnancy. It is firm upon pressure but movable upon pushing, and menstruation continues regularly. This is Changqin, a disorder of Qi without Blood involvement.
Lu Wan (Dew Pill)
Shijia arises in the Baozhong (Uterus). Cold lodges in the Zimen (Cervical Os), causing closure and blocking Qi flow. Evil blood should discharge but fails to do so, remaining and accumulating, growing daily until resembling pregnancy, accompanied by irregular menstruation. Both conditions occur in women and can be treated by guiding downward.
The Five Accumulations are generated by the Five Zang organs: the Heart is called Fuliang (Hidden Beam), the Liver Feiqi (Fat Qi), the Spleen Piqi (Stagnant Qi), the Lung Xiben (Rapid Breathing), and the Kidney Bentun (Running Piglet). The Six Gatherings are generated by the Six Fu organs. Pi masses form beside the navel, Ju gatherings in the hypochondrium, Pi stagnation in the chest, and Shan hernias in the lower abdomen. Food masses, Blood masses, Qi pi, Malaria pi, as well as Dragon, Snake, Fish, Turtle, Meat eruption, and Lice Jia, all occur occasionally due to accidental ingestion of foreign substances during eating, which remain in the abdomen, formed via blood, possessing vitality. For example, a monk in the Yonghui era suffered from dysphagia with a fish-like object in the abdomen. Others include using decaying combs for Lice Jia, copper filings for Dragon Jia, Qu (fermented starter) for Rice Jia, forged stone for Wine Jia, and tea mud for Leech Jia; these principles are understandable. All result from irregular diet, improper living habits, Zang-Fu deficiency, disharmony of Qi and Blood, condensation of phlegm-fluids, injury to Yin and Yang, and loss of degree in meridian circulation. Thus, attacks cause pain, sometimes severe enough to induce death, all attributed to blood pathology.
[Pulse] A deep and transverse pulse at the Cun Kou indicates accumulation and pain in the hypochondrium. Deep and choppy pulses in all positions indicate accumulation pain. Floating, Wiry-Rigid, Rapid, and Tight pulses also indicate accumulations. A floating and tight pulse at the Shaoyin position indicates abdominal pain, miscarriage (if tight) or blood loss, aversion to cold, and infertility (if floating). A wiry and urgent pulse is treatable; a weak pulse is untreatable.
