[Discussion on Metrorrhagia and Leukorrhea in Women]
Metrorrhagia and metrorrhagia (bleeding disorders) in women, resulting from excessive blood loss, are caused by the deficiency of both qi and blood, damaging the uterus and the Sea of Blood. The circulation of blood runs externally along the meridians and nourishes the internal zang-fu organs. Severe cases are termed "Beng" (sudden heavy bleeding), while mild cases are termed "Lou" (continuous dripping). Due to the deficiency of Qi in the Chong and Ren meridians, which fail to constrain menstrual blood, the Spleen fails to control blood, and the Liver fails to store blood, leading to sudden severe hemorrhage. Such syndromes arise from qi and blood deficiency, with prior damage to the Spleen and Stomach. Cases that can tolerate tonification are treatable. If physicians mistakenly use astringent and cold-natured agents, they further damage the vital qi of the Spleen and Stomach, causing blood to fail to return to its vessels. ([Wu's Note]: Cases that cannot tolerate tonification will develop into consumptive disease (Lao Zheng) and become difficult to treat.)
