Regarding leukorrhea (red and white discharge) in women, it is formed by stagnation of Ying Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi). Red discharge belongs to Ying (Nutritive) level, and white discharge belongs to Wei (Defensive) level; this is the normal pathological presentation. However, these symptoms arise from emotional disturbances such as joy, anger, sorrow, and overthinking, combined with pre-existing damp-heat, which injure the Ying Wei and Bao Luo (uterine collaterals). This causes turbid qi to seep into the Bladder, resulting in leukorrhea. Mild cases present with intermittent flow, while severe cases present with excessive, uncontrolled flow, accompanied by soreness and pain in the waist and knees, reduced appetite, and diminished spirit. The treatment principle should be to clear the upper jiao and solidify the lower jiao, allowing clear and turbid substances to separate naturally; regulate the Spleen and nourish qi, so that damp-heat resolves spontaneously. Furthermore, maintaining a bland diet followed by warming and tonifying the Lower Yuan (Lower Source) will eliminate the leukorrhea.
