Qian Yi (courtesy name Zhongyang) stated: "Tidal fever" refers to fever that occurs at specific times and subsides after those times pass, only to recur the following day. This indicates an impending onset of convulsions. The tidal fever during attacks resembles malaria fever; collectively, they are termed tidal fever. Since the attacks follow a regular schedule, the heat can be categorized into three types: Ying-level heat, Wei-level heat, and miasma heat. Whether occurring every two days or every three days, these conditions are treated with Li Jiang Yin (Pear Juice Decoction).
Wang Shi believed that tidal fever results from stagnation and excess in blood and qi, generating internal heat within the five zang organs, which steams outward to the body surface, causing fever. The *Shanghan Lun* states: "Tidal fever is excess heat; one should promote bowel movements." It is treated with formulas such as Da Chai Hu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction) and Cheng Qi Tang (Descending the Qi Decoction). For deficiency heat, Di Gu Pi San (Lycium Bark Powder) is the primary formula, while Xi Jiao Yin (Rhinoceros Horn Drink), Bie Jia Yin (Softshell Turtle Shell Drink), Ling Xi Yin (Spiritual Rhinoceros Drink), Qin Jiao Yin (Gentian Root Drink), and Sheng Xi San (Fresh Rhinoceros Powder) may also be used. The *Shengji Zonglu* employs Di Gu Pi Yin (Lycium Root Bark Decoction) and Qiang Huo Bing (Notopterygium Cake), among others.
