Wen Xunqiao’s second son-in-law's wife, more than fifty days postpartum, suffered from distending pain in the right hypochondrium, intolerable to touch, with excessive leukorrhea and bloody discharge resembling pus, accompanied by fever and dry, constipated stool. I stated: This is due to lochia not yet fully expelled, where blood stasis transforms into pus; treatment must be urgent. I have seen several women with this condition who lacked proper treatment knowledge, leading to toxin accumulation. Some developed intestinal abscess (Chang Yong), while others formed internal swelling toxins that ruptured and discharged through Yaoshu (BL23). All were caused by ignorance of treatment methods, preventing blood stasis from exiting. Urgently, Zelan Ye (Landsbergia Chrysostachys Leaf) and Shanzha Zi (Crataegi Fructus) were used as sovereign herbs to eliminate lochia; Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Radix), Fuling (Poria), and Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root) as ministerial herbs; Yimucao (Leonuri Herba) as assistant; and Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) and Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) as envoy. Externally, Danggui Longhui Wan (Cinnamon Twig and Gardenia Pill) was administered to moisten the intestines and allow heat to exit via stool. The next day after ingestion, abdominal and hypochondriac distension subsided, and pain ceased completely. Later, due to consuming meat and eggs, pain recurred but less severely. Bahe Wan (Harmonize the Stomach Pill) was then given, taken with Shanzha decoction (three qian), resulting in cure.
Wen Tianqu's wife, suffering from eye disease in winter, underwent excessive dispersing treatment by physicians. By spring, she vomited approximately one bowl of blood. In summer, she experienced afternoon tidal fever and cough, chest and diaphragm distending pain, profuse cold sweating in the morning, loose stools twice daily, reduced appetite, muscle wasting of seventy percent, and a rapid pulse. Based on symptoms and pulse, according to medical principles, it was considered incurable. Elders of the family, citing her upright character, earnestly requested my prescription. Unable to refuse their pleas, I prescribed Xiebai San (Drain White Powder) added with Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), and Madouling (Aristolochiae Manshuriensis Radix). After ingestion, she slept peacefully that night without coughing, though stools remained loose. White Baidou (Dolichoris Semen), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), and Fuling (Poria) were added to the previous formula, gradually stopping the sweating. Xiebai San was repeated with Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis), Madouling, Beimu, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Yiyiren (Coicis Semen), Shaoyao, Shanyao, Wuweizi, and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix). After three months of regulation, she recovered.
Zhang Er Niangzi, at seven months of pregnancy, suffered from incessant vomiting, qi stagnation with cough, and fullness/distension in the chest and both hypochondria, making it impossible to rest her head on a pillow. Initially, Jinhua Wan (Golden Flower Pill) was administered in two doses to stop vomiting, taking immediate effect. Subsequently, Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium), Chenpi, Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia), Fuling, Xuanjinhua (Inulae Flos), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Ziwan (Adenophorae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) were prescribed. After two doses, qi settled, cough stopped, and she slept peacefully. Jinhua Wan consists of Xionghuang (Realgar), Banxia, and Binglang (Arecae Semen), soaked in ginger juice, processed with steamed cake paste into pills.
