Ju (deep-seated abscess) refers to a sudden appearance of a dark spot within the muscle tissue. It may be as small as a bean, smaller than a grain of rice or millet, or severe cases may be as large as a plum pit. The color may be red, black, green, or white. The spot is firm in texture, and the pulse presents as a Shi pulse (Excess pulse), which has a root and does not present with edema. The pain is agonizing, reaching the heart, and the root of the lesion is extremely deep, penetrating into the muscle. If left untreated for a long time, swelling will spread to all sides, the spot turns purple-black, and it can rot and destroy tendons and bones. If the toxin spreads along the meridians and enters the Zang-Fu organs, it can be fatal. In southern regions, this condition is called "Zhe Du" (Poison Attachment). Upon contracting this, the necrotic flesh should be cut away entirely, or a red-hot iron should be used to cauterize the lesion until it is charred like carbon. Alternatively, moxibustion of one hundred Zhu (moxa cones) on the spot is considered optimal. Crushing fresh Rumex acetosa leaves and applying them to the periphery of the spot can prevent its spread. Drinking juices from Malva verticillata roots, Indigofera tinctoria (Isatis root/leaf extract), Rhinoceros horn, Cimicifuga foetida (Shengma), or bamboo sap, or taking Huanglong Tang (Yellow Dragon Decoction) as single-herb remedies, can only suppress the heat. Internal and external treatment methods follow those for treating Dan Du (Erysipelas).

When Ju occurs on the fingertip, it initially presents as a dark spot, followed by swelling, redness, blackening, and purple-black discoloration, with intense pain radiating to the heart; this is known as Dai Zhi (Subungual Abscess). Dai Zhi initially presents with swelling, feeling hot and painful, but without purple-black discoloration.

Dai Zhi initially presents with swelling, heat, and pain, without purple-black discoloration. Subsequently, pus forms along the nail edge. In severe cases, the nail may fall off completely. This is also referred to as Dai Zhi disease.

Dai Zhi is non-toxic; it arises solely from excessive heat accumulation and condensation within the tendons and bones. People in the Wu region call it "Zao Zhi," while rural folk call it "Tu Lu." All these terms refer to Dai Zhi disease. The treatment formula is as follows:

Soak the affected area in juice boiled from Licorice Root (Gancao) alone, or soak it in Mirabilite (Mangxiao) decoction, or apply crushed juice of green vegetables externally. Using any one of these methods for soaking or compressing will lead to recovery.

For pain associated with Dai Zhi, apply a mixture of lard and white clay to the affected area.

If wind-heat toxin competes and causes swelling, presenting initially with swelling and heat, and developing blisters resembling those from fire scorching on the surface, it is named Wind-Heat Toxin. The treatment method is the same as that for Erysipelas.

Re Chu (Hot Sore) refers to sores that immediately produce white pus upon formation.

Hong Zhu Chu (Crimson Candle Sore) refers to a sudden eruption of blisters on the body, resembling boiling water splashed onto the skin. In severe cases, it covers the entire head and face, or the chest, hypochondrium, waist, and abdomen are scorched like boiling water, with blisters arising. The treatment method is as follows:

Urgently administer Loulu Tang (Euphorbia Lappa Decoction) to purge the interior. Externally, bathe in Shengma Tang (Cimicifuga Decoction); simply increase the dosage and boil longer for bathing. Applying Shengma Gao (Cimicifuga Ointment) during this period is excellent. If medicines are unavailable due to remote location, follow the treatment principles for Erysipelas using single-herb vegetable formulas.
