*Shenghui Fang* discusses: The imbalance of cold and heat in children is generally caused by improper breastfeeding or diet, and a loss of regulation in cold and warmth; or it may result from the mutual overdominance of Yin and Yang, leading to disharmony of Qi and Blood. This causes coldness to settle in the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner) and heat to rush to the Upper Ge (Diaphragm). If wind-cold enters the intestines and stomach, it leads to unpredictable diarrhea and dysentery, abdominal distension and fullness, or occasional vomiting and regurgitation, making it impossible to take milk and food. Hence, it is called the imbalance of cold and heat.
Zhang Huan discusses: The reason why children are prone to illness is that they cannot protect themselves, relying entirely on their wet nurses for regulation. If breastfeeding is inappropriate, it results in an imbalance of cold and heat, with heat rushing to the Upper Ge and cold settling in the Lower Jiao, causing unequal deficiency and excess. Food and fluids fail to digest, thereby damaging the Spleen and Stomach. Deficiency of Stomach Qi leads to vomiting; deficiency of Spleen Qi leads to diarrhea and dysentery; if complicated by accumulation, it transforms into lower dysentery. Generally, the Spleen and Stomach require proper regulation. If the condition becomes severe and persists, causing worms to move and generating wind, it leads to critical danger. Is this not something to be cautious about!
