Whenever Yang syndrome fever does not subside but instead Yin pulse appears, it is a ominous sign. ○ If the pulse is floating and slippery, sweating is profuse like oil, panting is unceasing, food and fluids cannot be taken in, limbs are numb and insensible, alternating between stillness and panting, death ensues.
○ Sweating moistly with unceasing panting indicates the Lung Qi failing first. ○ Body color dark like smoke, eyes staring straight, head shaking indicates the Heart Qi failing first. ○ Lips and mouth corners turning blue, limbs twitching with cold sweat indicates the Liver Qi failing first. ○ Blackening around the mouth, empty sweat yellowish indicating Spleen Qi failure. ○ Pulse tight and large in all three positions (Cun, Guan, Chi), profuse sweating with heat not resolving indicates death. ○ Both Cun and Chi pulses are deficient in Yin and Yang, with continuous heat indicates death. ○ Body heat, coarse breathing, seeing Yang pulse with restlessness indicates death; cold extremities with deep and fine pulse indicates death.
Qihai (CV 6) is located 1.5 cun below the umbilicus, Shimen (CV 5) is 1 cun below the umbilicus, Guanyuan (CV 4) is 3 cun below the umbilicus. These three acupoints are effective for treating Yin Jue (Cold Reversal due to Yang deficiency) with faint pulse nearly imperceptible, retraction of the scrotum, urinary incontinence, abdominal pain, abdominal fullness, and borborygmus.
Yanglingquan (GB 34) consists of two points, located 1 cun below the knee. Yi Lao (referring to Zhang Yuansu) stated: For irritability, fullness, and retraction of the scrotum, moxibustion on this point is suitable.
Whenever the pulse is faint and wiry, with lower abdominal pain, it belongs to Jueyin disease; moxibustion on Guilai (ST 29) and Guanyuan (CV 4) for several moxa cones is suitable.
Whenever the pulse is deep, with periumbilical abdominal pain, it belongs to Shaoyin disease; moxibustion on Zhongwan (CV 12) for five to seven moxa cones is suitable.
