Parents usually regulate the child's diet, never damaging the Spleen. The diet is sufficient and lacking nothing, and it is not after an illness. However, seeing the child wasting away day by day, the symptoms must stem from unspoken thoughts or emotional distress. Or perhaps when the child is two to three or four to five years old, the mother gives birth to another child. There are many sounds of affection while holding the newborn. The older child peeks from the side, seeing that the mother's love has been taken away, unable to be held and breastfed. They can only think of it morning and night. Over time, this damages the Spleen. Treating this condition is beyond the reach of medicine alone. This syndrome was previously unrecorded and is rarely seen today.

When my late father was alive, my sister returned to her natal home for a visit. She saw her nephew suffering from emaciation (gan syndrome) but found no other symptoms. Shortly after, she saw my sister breastfeeding; the older nephew leaned against his knee, appearing distracted and absent-minded. I asked my sister when the thinness began. She said it started after the second child was born, about a month ago. My late father instructed my sister not to let the thin nephew see during breastfeeding. After feeding, she would hold him in her arms and offer an empty nipple to suckle, comforting him by saying, "I only love you." Doing so for a month, he indeed gained weight without medication. Reflecting on my late father, how wonderful his medical skill was! How divine his spiritual insight!

"Tiānzhùgǔ dǎo" (Collapse of the Heavenly Pillar Bone), which refers to neck flaccidity, is caused by deficiency of True Qi (Zhēnqì). Pathogenic factors enter the Fu organs and transmit to the sinews and bones, causing the neck to hang down weakly and powerlessly. Treatment should employ Qu Feng San (Wind-Expelling Powder). For cases resulting from prolonged vomiting/diarrhea or chronic illness leading to flaccidity, Liu Junzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) with Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) is appropriate. For hand flaccidity, Yiyiren (Coix Seed), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Zaoren (Ziziphi Spinosomi Semen), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), and Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica) should be used in equal parts. For foot flaccidity, Liujun Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) with Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Wujia Pi (Acanthopanacis Cortex), and Lurong (Deer Antler Velvet) in equal parts is suitable.

My younger cousin's grandson, Yu Duo, was ten months old and presented with collapse of the Heavenly Pillar Bone. His father said the child was extremely weak and insisted on using Ginseng immediately. I said, "Pathogenic factors have entered the interior; how can tonics be used hastily?" His intention was thwarted. I refused sternly and prescribed Qu Feng San as a decoction. After one dose, the neck straightened slightly. Then, I ordered Liu Junzi Tang with added Fangfeng. After five doses, he recovered.

Stiffness and rigidity of the head, neck, hands, and feet like wood indicates Liver Wind due to pathogenic Wind invading the Liver. Treatment should employ Xiao Xuming Tang (Minor Continuation of Life Decoction).

This disease arises from heat accumulated in the womb, resulting in mouth ulcers, or gingival gan syndrome progressing to Zouma Gan (gangrenous stomatitis). Treatment should employ Dao Chi San (Guide Out Red Powder) combined with Qingwei Tang (Stomach-Clearing Decoction). If it occurs after a long illness, with extreme emaciation, it is a difficult-to-treat condition.
