It is effective when prepared with wine.
Sweet, neutral, slightly toxic. Enters the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. Treats skin insensitivity (numbness), cures wind-induced heat toxins. Its functions are similar to those of *Baihuashe* (White-spotted Snake). However, *Baihuashe* primarily treats lung wind and is a key herb for vitiligo; *Wushaoshe* (Zaocys) primarily treats kidney wind and is a specific herb for purpura-like dermatological conditions (Ziyunfeng). Combined with *Shexiang* (Musk) and *Jingjie* (Schizonepeta), it treats infant lockjaw (Xiao'er Cuokou).
*Wushaoshe* from Qizhou has two cun of reverse hair on its head and one strip of white belt, one cun long, on its belly; these are male snakes and can be used as medicine. Remove the head, skin, and bones, soak in wine overnight, roast with suet (animal fat), bury underground overnight, and then use. Larger snakes have reduced potency. Misuse may instead draw wind pathogens into the bones.
Apply its gallbladder externally to treat leprosy (Lifeng) and swollen wooden tongue (Mushe).
(Grass Carp / Water Snake - Note: Text says "Ji Shui She", likely referring to a specific fish or typo for Grass Carp/Jiyu in context of "Fish four types")
Sweet, salty, cold. Treats Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst), irritability and heat, toxic dysentery.
The skin, when burnt and ground into powder, treats pediatric bone abscesses (Guju).
(Four types of fish)
*Xueqi* (Perilla leaf/stem) acts as an assistant drug. Contraindicated with *Tianmendong* (Asparagus tuber) and *Zhusha* (Cinnabar).
Sweet, neutral. Reduces edema, treats jaundice (Huangdan), stops intestinal pain/diarrhea, disperses blood stasis. Combined with *Ejiao* (Donkey-hide gelatin) and *Nuomi* (Glutinous rice), it treats threatened miscarriage with bleeding (fish should be charred to carbon). Stuff alum into the fish's abdomen, wrap in paper, seal with mud, bake until cooked, and eat to treat edema.
Excessive consumption induces wind and fire. Contraindicated after epidemic diseases, during dysentery, and in cases of old accumulations.
Gallbladder: Removes red swelling and blindness (Qingmang), drops into ears for deafness, applies topically for sores/toxins.
Drop gallbladder juice onto a mirror, dry in shade, scrape off with a bamboo knife for use.
(Sweet, neutral. Opens the stomach, benefits the five zang organs, makes one fat and strong. No contraindications with other medicines.)
(Sweet, neutral. Enters the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian. Treats diarrhea and dysentery, promotes digestion, opens the stomach.
Roast with wine or boil in soup.)
Swim bladder (Biao)
Also known as fish maw (Jiao). Warms the essence of Shaoyin (Kidney), and also resolves stasis and detoxifies.
Shizhongshi (Stone-head stone - likely referring to Stonefish or specific part):
Treats Shi Lin (gravelly urine). Burn to ash, grind to powder, sprinkle into ears discharging pus.
Contraindicated with Maidong (Ophiopogon) and Shatang (Rock sugar).
Sweet, neutral. Enters the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. Harmonizes the stomach, solidifies the intestines, unblocks yin and promotes urination/water metabolism. (Most fish belong to Fire, but this one belongs to Earth.) Dip in fennel powder and take to treat hernia (Shanqi). Combine with Yam (Shanyao), crush and apply topically to treat soft sores in the groin/perineum (Biandu).
Cook with Adzuki beans (Chixiaodou) and eat to reduce edema. Fill the abdomen with green onions, bake, grind, and use to treat diaphragmatic qi stagnation (Geqi).
Promotes water metabolism; extract juice to decoct herbs. Excessive consumption induces fire.
